The majority of the workers in the construction industry are not trained. The training received mostly comes through work experience. For the more specialty trades, a trade school is often times attended (electrical, HVAC, plumbing). Even with this trade school, the workers still must go through an apprenticeship period. The training that workers do receive is in safety. OSHA is very strict on safety practices for construction because it is inheriently dangerous. As a worker moves up the chain of command training becomes more inportant. This is more for the running of crews than the work itself. In general with construction, the training is secondary to the experience. The education and training that is needed is for safety and to manage people, especially on the general contractor level. These trained managers are then the ones who ensure that the workers proceed safely, on schedule, and with good quality.
