Oh are You in for some interesting times! Quakers are a riot!
First of all remember that they are indeed parrots. Just because they are smaller, doesn't mean that they require less attention or care than a larger hookbill.
Here are some websites to get you in the right direction:
http://www.quakerville.com/

http://www.quakerparrots.com/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monk_Parakeet

http://www.birdsnways.com/

http://www.parrotparrot.com/library/

This is just to get you started. I know it looks like a lot; and it is. But there is a lot to learn to develop a good working relationship with a parrot so that both of you are happy.
Parrots are highly intelligent and you have to learn a lot in order to keep them healthy, entertained and well trained.
My rescued Quaker was a little nasty biter when I got her. She now is a total delight, does tricks and wants nothing more than to hang out with me. She is wonderful. It took time and training, but she's a new bird.
So it does work and if you take the time to learn positive reinforcement training, you will have the best bird possible.
Good Luck.

Quakers are fun fun fun I raised a lot of Quakers for a breeder friend and I adore them. They take a lot of Patience and love just like any other bird. They are good talkers, if you spend a lot of time with it talking to it loving it you should have a great little friend. My baby Gonzzo was talking at 4 months I think this may be a bit of an exception so don't expect it to talk that early I had other talking birds in the house.
Also start feeding a good diet with fruit, veggies, beans, rice, eggs, lentils etc, an all seed diet isn't healthy, it would be like us eating french fries for every meal.
Good Luck & enjoy that sweet little bundle of green feathers :o)

check out a great forum, www.theperch.net there are some quaker owners there, including those who have hand raised them from chicks. Several other parrot species are discuessed there. I myself own a Yellow Nape Amazon, and an African Grey (congo). Quakers are adorable parrots!

You are in for some fun! Along with most of the good info that you have been given already, I would like to add that you need to make sure you spend a fair amount of time with your new feathered friend. My daughter's little green monster started talking about about 4 months old. She is very lovable (away from her cage). Quaker's are like having a very petite 2 year old flying around! They want to be in the middle of everything! They are very good talkers, and make good compainions as long as your willing to take care of them. They do take alot of time to train and tame. Even tame birds need to be worked with daily to keep them tame. Good luck and have fun!!!!
