The simple answer is that each person needs the amount of sleep they want and need. On average, we can expect to sleep for about 8 hours in every 24, or about one third of our lives. Winston Churchill managed on about 3 or 4 hours a night. Everyone is different.

I think the average person should not be subjected to more than 3 to 4 hours of Wayne Sleep in a lifetime.

I heard that the best amount of sleep for an average adult is 8 hours a night. But obviously for children it is a lot more (depending on age). I don't feel at my best if I have under 8 hours. If i have under six hours i feel awful. But if i have more than 10 i feel like i have slept too much and sometimes feel worse for the lie in.

Depends on age and activity. A normal, healthy 10+ year old
should sleep 8 hours if no rest taken during the day. A person
70+ years may need a nap during the day, after lunch, and a full
8 hour night‘s sleep.

Different for everyone I think, but 9 hours does it for me. I read some article by a sleep doctor that said if you need an alarm clock to wake you up then you are not getting enough sleep. Apparently you should wake up naturally at the time you need to get up for work etc, and that your body has more than one body clock so it can compensate for different times of the year with different light levels. Clever stuff.

The best way to work this out is: take a week off work, go to bed at the same time every night but don't turn the alarm clock on. wake up naturally every morning, take note of how many hours sleep you had then after 7 nights, add the hours then divide by 7. you're left with your amount of sleep needed every night. Every ones different, go on try it... it works!
