It depends on how responsible the child is and from what I know 17 is the best age not an adult(18) not a child(16) that is what most parents where I live wait for that in between age.

There are specific laws but you will need to use your own parental judgment and consider the age of your children, their level of comfort, their available support, the safety of your neighborhood etc. It waited almost 3 years to return to work because I wanted to make sure that my kids them more independent. I also installed keyless entry on the garage door so that they would not have to worry about lost keys. Both of my neighbors are at home during the day and I have a flexible schedule that allows me to have some work at home hours. By the way my kids are 12 and 13. I hope this helps.

I don't know what the laws in any state are, now days though it's not safe to leave any child home alone. you'd be better off finding a good daycare center or family member to watch your child, as for a safe 12 & up if you have no choice. at least they can understand things better at that age and will follow instructions better.

I do not know the laws in Ohio, but alot depends on the maturity of the child and how he/she will be able to respond if an emergency should come up.

If your oldest is 12 and your younger child is not much younger you may be ok. The law in Texas states that it's neglect to leave any child under the age of 10 without adult supervision. If you have doubts they may still be too young.

In most places it's 13 yrs old. However, I would base in more on maturity than age... how does your child feel about being home by himself or herself for an hour alone? Two hours? I recommend incremental steps to build and teach responsible behavior... I feel leaving a responsible child alone for brief periods builds their confidence levels.

I'm not sure what the laws are in Ohio, but I'm sure you can find them on the internet somewhere. Just wait until there is atleast one, older, responsible child that you know you can trust.

Legal age in my state is AGE 12... And that 12 year old better be mature enough to handle siblings younger than he or she or neighbors can cause trouble even at the legal age!
