I'd like to know what your definition of indigestion is. If you are referring to burning pain (heartburn), then figuring out what foods trigger it for you would be important. In addition, many people who suffer from heartburn (reflux) still need medication to control it. Prilosec OTC is one that is often prescribed for people that have heartburn more than twice a week. Reflux can be dangerous because it can erode your esophagus and damage your upper airway and throat. If this is the type of problem you are having, you should talk to you doctor before taking anything.
If your definition of indigestion is a pain like you need to burp, but can't. It feels like pressure built up. Then an anti-gas medication can be helpful. Antacids and Anitgas medications are not the same. Antigas meds usually contain simethicone. If you'd rather deal with this type of pain more naturally, I'll tell you what has worked for me for almost 20 years. You'll laugh, but it works. When I get indigesion, I drink pickle juice. Usually a swallow or two and it stops it almost immediately. I've never known why, but I guess that doesn't really matter. It only works for this kind of indigestion, not for heartburn.

Don't eat fast, and drink a lot of water.
Don't eat right before you go to sleep.
Always keep some Pepto-Bismol around for painful indigestion. Seriously.
There are other suggestions but these two are the most helpful advice I can give you. The Pepto-Bismol is from my own experience.

Milk may be good to help you sleep (due to its calcium content) but it is about THE worst thing you can consume if you are prone to indigestion. If you have acid reflux "disease" milk will surely set it off. Milk is not a safe thing for such sufferers to ingest late at night.
Your body makes sodium bicabonate (but it is not released into the stomach---instead into the intestines where it neutralizes the acid in food passing into it from the stomach). You can dissolve a bit more than a half teaspoon of BAKING SODA (sodium bicarbonate, a.k.a. bicarbonate of soda) into about a cup of water and drink it. It gives off carbon dioxide, so you'll belch for a while, but you'll get near instant relief.
Eating a piece of a raw potato also can help. It seems to absorb and neutralize the acid. I read something about that somewhere but can't recall the source. Below is one source also recommending it.

OK cut out : Booze, Fags, Fry-ups, anything Asian, anything
fried, anything that looks like it fried, anything
reasonably tasty. being a couch potato and
sitting on your a**e all day..
Take up Walking, a hobby ( one you forgot you did years
ago, fishing, bowling, bikeing. ect) play with the
kids, join a club, even Open University!!
You do not say how old you are, but indigestion can be the
start of many sinister things !! good luck

You need to go to your GP if your get it regularly. In the mean time avoid spices, citrus fruit, anything acidic, fizzy pop, milk (this turns to acid in your stomach and causes indigestion) coffee these all cause indigestion, eat small potions of food regularly, eat it slowly. Mints help to ease it.

tums is good once in a while but don't get in the habit, it can actually make symptoms worse, id get rid of the foods that are causing the problem, it may be caused by something else to like being lactose intolerant or having acid reflux both which can be solved with meds. Working out also helps in digestion..

It is probably your diet. However, if you have it the best way to treat it is with Ranatadine (you can buy it at the chemist) another name for Zantac. Depends how severe it is and how often you get it. If it's occassional then Magnesium Tricilicate or Gaviscon is quite good (liquid). However, if it is a persistent problem go see your Doctor and he/she will probably put you onto Losec or something. Some people drink milk with honey. You have my sympathy.

Try some Digestive Enzyme pills or papaya tablets with each meal. If you get a lot of gas after eating, simethicone (Mylicon) is a lifesaver. A couple tsp of apple cider vinegar in a couple ounces of diet 7-up is often helpful. Peppermint and chamomile tea is good for upset stomachs.
