You can have both, just pay them off every month.

if you are a college student try capital one. I got my first credit card with them when I was a freshman in college, good limit, and good rates. Even if you are not a college student look at some of the other cards that they offer. I am really sure that you will find something with them.

You usually can get credit from a department store, my 1st credit card was from Mervyns. Once you pay your bills on time etc. you will get offers thrown at you. Good Luck
