Mostly and traditionally Marines are an extension of the Navy. Even when seen on a Marines LES (Leave and earning statement), sort of like a pay stub, you will see that is singed by the Navy. Typically Marines have to do a little bit of everything involving their role in the infantry. Marines are fist into a fight, or that is the way that it is supposed to work, especially when attacking by sea, although the Army has an elite group with in it's self that is fist to fight as well, the Rangers. Smaller groups are always more effective when sent to fight first because it takes less time for a smaller fighting force to get ready for battle. History will show that Marines have also been deployed more often as a police force to stop aggression and maintain order. Some of the more obvious differences between the Army and the Marine corps is that a Marine has to go through 3 months of boot camp, women have to do 4 seeing as how their Marine combat training is rolled into their boot camp. Marines that are selected to be in the infantry do not have to go through Marine combat training seeing as how when they get to their school after boot camp they get a longer and more extensive infantry training the their school of the infantry. The Army only does about 2 months of boot camp, some would like you to believe that their boot camp is just as long as the Marines, but this is not true. Right after boot camp for the Army they go directly to their school A.I.T. This is not boot camp only the school to get training in their chosen or selected field. A person in the Army is typically called a soldier, and the definition of the word Marine as in the case of the military is sea soldier. Marines also deploy their support a little different than the Army does in some cases, like tanks will be sent in to support infantry units in the Marine corp, in the Army tanks will be used on their own in groups or in support for infantry units. Marines tend to fight in smaller teams and carry more fire power than the average Army fire teams also. I feel that most of these differences are do to the traditions of the Marines and the Army. Mostly when Marines go in first to fight, the casualty numbers and recon data is used by the Army so that they know how many Army troops they will need to secure the area. Basically we soften the enemy up, and the Army comes in after and cleans house.

I know i wouldn't like to be a Marine, they are too brainwashed.
I'll like to be an Army Ranger, because Rangers Lead The Way!!!
I don't care what people say about Marines are the first to fight. People say Army cleans up after them, and i guess those people are saying that Marines don't do a good job in fighting because Army personnel have more casualties then Marines.
In Iraq, there is no such thing as the FRONTLINES, anywhere in Iraq is extremely DANGEROUS. Anybody who is in Iraq will tell you that. So those people who say Marines are the only ones on the frontlines is a bunch a BULL$HIT! Because both of them are fighting and dying for this Country while people are here arguing about who is better. They both serve the US, and that means they are the both in the same team and both of them are the BEST of the BEST.

The Marines are a go anywhere, do anything, lightning strike force. They carry their own air force, artillery, armor and support, as well as travelling with Naval support.
While the difference between the Marines an the Army mission can be easily blurred, the Marines mission is to go in first and set up a 'beach-head' (genericaly speaking), but because they move light and fast, they don't have a great deal of longevity. A MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit), which consists of a reinforced infatry battalion, a service battalion, and a reinforced helicopter squadron, is intended to hit the beach, and carry enough to support itself for 30 days in combat conditions.
Because the standard army division has a great deal more men, and heavy equipment than a Marine division, as well as all of its component units being a little more spread out, takes more time and logistical resources to move, but they can support themselves for 90 days of combat conditions without resupply.

The United States Marine Corps requires recruits to have an IQ of 70 or below.
The United States Army requires recruits to have an IQ of 55 or below.
Both requirements are, of course, of a considerably higher cognitive level than the Commander-in-Chief.

Philosophically, the Army coordinates a large range of volunteers into a fighting force with a huge diversity.
The Marines break down everyone into little mental pieces and rebuild them into same size parts. (like psychological chicken McNuggets)
The former works for the Army's large scale purpose, the latter works for the Marine Corps' spearhead purpose.

Marines and Army have different missions.
Marines are typically used in conjunction with the Navy as a rapid-strike force which can make beach landings. Think of them as an extension of the Navy.
The Army is typically used as an occupation force, and concentrates on land campaigns.
These missions become blurred with long-term campaigns such as the Vietnam campaign and our current operation in Iraq.

The Marines go in first, and the army mops up. And don't ever call a Marine a soldier. They are very fussy about that.

Marines are the best, they have the best training, the best military men and women in the world. The army is just really good, but they aren't the best.
