I think at times they are to be truthful. I have seen it. However, to fellowship with "other christians" is what God wanted as well to keep our faith stronger in him and to help eachohter and to keep growing as a church. I wouldnt say all the time members do this and everywhere but I have seen it, even in my own church. There are the few who feel the need to socialize more-so.

At our church, worship comes first always but we also have ice-cream socials, pot-luck dinners, quilting bees, bible study groups, knit/crochet groups, chili feeds, fall festival, Easter egg hunts etc., etc. Of course whatever is going on depends on the time of year. Lots of folks (both members & non members) may rent our fellowship hall for family reunions, birthday parties etc. Christ is the center of our spiritual lives & the church buildings are the centers of a lg. part of our social lives.

Not a social club, but a place of fellowship. Which means its okay to talk and to laugh and to talk about what's going on in one another's lives.
