Well, one possibility is that her litter box is dirty. If you scoop it once a day, and completely change the litter and wash out the box once a week, that should help. It's possible something scared her while she was using the litter box, and how she doesn't want to use it. You could try purchasing a new litter box that looks different, and placing it in a different area of the house. Another possibility might be that she is getting inadvertedly shut out of the part of the house where the litter box is, or kids, other cats, or the family dog is bothering her when she is trying to use the litter box. If you have multiple cats, try getting a second box, and placing it in a different location. There's always the possibility of a medical problem (urinating or defecating may be painful, and she associates the box with the pain, and won't go there anymore). You might want to take her to a vet to rule out medical problems.
Hope this helps!

I assume he has a cat door and you don't have to open the door everytime he wants out and if so, lucky you.
My sister has a cat that has decided to go outside. She puts the litter box out in the patio for her and she uses it along with other spots. Her cat has a door to go in and out all night.
If you keep your cat in at night then that would be a problem. If so, try a different brand of litter.

Every cat I've ever had eventually gives up the box for the great outdoors! Thank her for letting you know.

Any change in your cat's behavior should be noted and shared with the vet. They have a tendency to not tell us when they are not feeling well so problems can go undiagnosed for too long.

Hey, as long as she doesn't potty your floor or laundry, be oh so very glad. I hate potty boxes and wish mine would just potty outside. Maybe she feels cleaner going outside, some cats do.
