It IS an act of self-convincing.You already have some. Why do you doubt "O' ye of little faith"? There is no inoculation for doubt. You cannot buy it at Wal-Mart. Faith is the power to believe something,in spite of what your physical senses are telling you.

No, you already have the faith necessary for your life. It may be small, but it can be fed and caused to grow. You just need to exercise it some more!
You encounter faith within yourself whenever you "trust" your friends' opinions about other things, or when you "trust" what you hear on the news to be factual, or when you "trust" the word of an educated scholar on any particular topic.
If you haven't found reason to trust what other people say about God, then obviously there is a problem. Case by case, the people you are running into may not be trustworthy to begin with, or they may be strangers (no relationship=no trust). If a person you KNOW to be trustworthy says "God exists", and you doubt their word for any other reason (besides lying), then the problem may be in an anti-religious bias within you.

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." This is in Romans 10:17. "Word" comes from "rhema" which means spoken word. I you want faith, then read Jesus' testimony.
Before you try to acquire faith, you ought to find out what faith is. Read Hebrews chapter 11, the whole thing. You'll find that faith is belief and action founded on the immutable character of God in conjunction with God's will and purpose.
Walmart won't have faith. Mostly, they just have a bunch of stuff that succumbs rather quickly with the passage of time.

Your beliefs do require faith. Atheism requires more faith than Christianity. For a person to believe that so many things happened by pure chance is a much greater stretch than anything in the bible.

We are all gifted with a desire to seek after the truth. It is the seed of faith that we need to exercise in order to move closer to Him.
Mat 7:7-8
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. (KJV)
If you feel you are lacking in faith then you must nurture what little you have in order to see it grow. Start by seeking the truth through Jesus, ask God to help you, expect and look for the answer to your prayer.
God is a faithful God

God wants us—every one of us—to have a strong faith in Him. He wants us to have a faith that doesn't waver or come and go, and one that will be strong enough to see us through life's trials and temptations. Have you asked Him for this kind of faith?
Faith, however, doesn't just happen—any more than a strong body just happens. To have a strong body, you need to eat well, and you need to avoid things that could harm you or make you sick. You also need to exercise and take care of your body. The same is true with our souls. We need to avoid things that will harm us or make us spiritually sick, and we need to exercise our faith and put it into action. Most of all, we need to "eat" the spiritual "food" God has provided for us.
What is the "food" God has given us to strengthen our faith? First, He has given us His Word, the Bible. In it He tells us what He has done for us, and how we are to live in return. Then God has given us the privilege of prayer, so we can come into His presence and share our deepest concerns with Him. He also has given us other believers, who can encourage and guide us.
The Bible says, "Physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come" (1 Timothy 4:8). Make sure you have committed your life to Christ, and then make use of the spiritual "food" God has given you to grow in your faith.

Seriously- no.
Each person is given a measure of faith- and if you were really sincere you could easily find out.

First you have to find something you believe to be true. Then it's pretty easy. Like the sitting in a chair analogy.

Faith is the excuse for ignorance. If ignorance is bliss, Christians must be having never-ending explosive orgasms.
