I am stumped with what is a DO or DON'T when it comes to hanging picture frames on the walls in my home. Question part 1. I don't know if I should choose the color of the frame based on it enhancing the picture or should I choose a frame color based on how it will match the things in my rooms. For example I have light colored wood tables in my family room but the pictures I want to hang would look gorgeous in something dark like a cherrywood frame. Should I follow throughout with matching colors to the other wood furniture in the room or go with what makes the pictures pop? Part 2. When you come in my front door there is a long hallway in which I want to hang pictures all the way across. Do I match all the frames on the wall for one uniform look or can I use clusters of same color but broken up in to sections along the wall like with a few feet in-between? Same question for my staircase walls! I thank you in advance for you advice!! :)

I always used frames that matched my decor. Now that means you could use metal, wood or whatever. I just thought it looked better.

You can also put clusters of photos on a wall if you cluster them to look like they are meant to be that way. You dont want it too look messy or unorganized.

Good questions! First of all, you need to know that "woods don't fight" which means you can mix different types as long as there aren't too many shades. You need to match the frame to the picture. As far as your hallway, I think a uniform look without clusters would look best and less busy. Same with the staircase.

I personally would match the frames to the artwork inside of them. #2 I would use the same color frames in different dimensions and have them scattered across the hall wall if you don't have enough to cover the wall, or hang them in groupings of the same theme. Good luck

#1- I would hang frames that match your decor. #2- In the hallway since it sounds like you have many pics. to hang I would cut construction paper the same sizes as your frames with a little piece of tape on it, put them up, mix them up,move them around until you achieve the look you're happy with.

while decorating your home there are no do's or don't, it is your home and you have the right to decorate the way you like......i would match the frames to go with the basic color scheme and that will look nice, do what you like the best and it will look just fine...............
