Because you go to hell if you commit suicide.

Acts 2:34 says that king David has not ascended into heaven. If David isn't there then where is he? All the dead are in the graves where we put them and won't be in heaven until Jesus comes again. 1 Thessalonians 4:16, Ecclesiasties 9:5 & 6 You are dust until the coming of the Lord. a side note is that most churches believe that if the last thing that you do is "murder" yourself then you can't ask God for forgiveness and therefore you won't go to heaven anyway.

I presume that you are a Christian or are asking about Christianity (because I really don't know what the answer would be for Muslims or Buddhists).
There are 7 stages to Christianity, although almost everyone just focuses on the first, sometimes the third.
The spirits of those who go thru the first will not be destroyed but will have the maturity-equivalent in heaven of babies.
The first step of course is to invite Jesus into your heart, to take his place on the throne of your heart and rule your life.
The second step, that everyone glosse over or believes that they can cover by reading and studying the works of man is to come to know the Torah more thoroughly than you know your own gender or adulthood.

In any case, if you want to be mature and act in heaven, suicide makes no sense.

As for Pagans, we don't all believe the same thing, but few of us believe that things like the Summerland (our version of heaven) is anything more than a vacation between lives.

You can stay alive, and still die and go to heaven. There is no need for the body to die, only the ego. Didn't you hear, the kingdom of heaven is at hand!

How do you know if there IS a heaven?
And assuming there IS such a place as heaven- Then there must be a higher power...
Now, then assuming there is a higher power, there must be a divine purpose to our lives here on earth. And to purposely end ones life, would go against our divine purpose, orchestrated by the higher power, would be wrong and unnatural,... Against the Creator...
Hence if Heaven is such a wonderful place, I doubt it would be filled with Selfish people who would prefer to cop out from thier *mission(s)* here on earth...

What if life on earth is as good as it gets?
What if death is the End??

As for me? I don't believe in heaven. Only Hell, and we're there....

Well, the real question is "What is our purpose on earth?" It has everything to do with why we should stay alive. Personally, I would just as soon go be with Jesus and leave all the wickedness of earth behind, but God created us for a reason.

We are to bring glory to God by being His shining light in a darkened and sinful world. Not only to we have a purpose, but each person has a unique plan which God had designed for their lives. It is our responsibility to seek God to learn His plan and then set our wills to be obedient to what He has for us, because He knows what is best for us. In His great love, infinite mercy and grace, He gives us the opportunity to complete the work He has for us to do on this earth before we leave it. Even Jesus said, "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you." John 17:1 and also John 17:4 "I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do."

Of course, we do not do our work on our own. It is only with God's help that we are able to do the work He has for us to do. But, this is His promise: "..He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6 This verse has always been such a comfort to me. Through times of illness and discouragement, it gave me hope that God still had more for me to do. May it also encourage you.

When you die you don't go anywhere until the end of the world. Then you are raised in either the first or second Resurrection. If you are headed for heaven it will be the first one. If you wake up in the second one you will then be burned up by Hell fire and then cease to exist for all eternity. If you want all the texts for these facts go to amazingfacts.org. However, time for the dead does not exist so when they wake up it will seem like they were dead for one second. It actually will be the number of years from the time they died to the end of the world +/- 1000 years.

God didn't put us here just to indulge ourselves or have a good time (at least in the way you probably mean it). God put us here for a purpose—and that purpose is to live for Him and experience the joy of His presence every day.

The problem is, God wants to be at the center of our lives‐but so do we. We want to run our own lives and be free to do anything we please because we think that must be the path to happiness. But when we live only for ourselves, we find it doesn't bring us happiness after all. In fact, a life of self-indulgence only leads to emptiness. The Bible warns, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death" (Proverbs 14:12).

But God has another way for us—His way! It alone is the way of peace, and it alone will bring us true happiness. Not only that, but His path alone will lead us to heaven. What is that way? It is the way of the cross—Christ's cross. On the cross Christ took away all our sins and selfishness, and now He wants to come into our lives and replace them with His love.

Jesus said, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" (John 10:10). Turn to Christ today and ask Him to come into your life. Then ask Him to begin changing you from within—and He will, as you yield your life to Him and allow His Word, the Bible, to shape your life every day.

Who said we ALL go to heaven? Your pastor? READ the bible. The whole thing! It'll take about a year if you read about 6 pages a day. You'll find that the churches are only saying what they want you to hear.

I have often questioned that. If humans naturally believe in an afterlife, then before organized religion, people would have participated in mass suicides to get to the afterlife, since only organized religion forbids suicide. There is no record of this, so I assume that naturally, people to not entirely believe in either a god or an afterlife.
