Jesus wasn't the "kind" of Messiah the Jewish leaders of 1st century Palestine were expecting. He totally blew apart their expectations, and threatened their political power in front of both Rome and the populace.

They did believe him. Only a very few did not believe him and that was because they felt threatened by him.
The ones that did not want to believe him were important to the rules and regulations and the running of the temple. They had become self important and with the presence of Jesus they felt all that power and importance slipping away.
What happened towards the end of Jesus CHrist's ministry is very important to the explanation of your question.
The Jewish people had human expectations of what their Messiah would do and not do. When Jesus Christ rode into Jerusalem on that donkey, the path was lined with believers waving pam leaves and welcoming him into the city.
They believed he was the promised Messiah and they were excited to have him there. They expected him to overthrow the Roman government and control that the romans exerted over the Jewish people.
When Jesus did not overthrow the government, but instead allowed himself to be delivered to them as a prisioner, that is the point that the Jewish people became disenchanted with him and stopped believing in him. They could not understand that his purpose for being here was far greater than the overthrowing of an individual government. He was here to sacrifice himself to set them free from their own sin, not from their governmental contol.
As with all things, this did have to happen , that his own received him not. It set up the scene for the end times which is yet to come.

it is because their eyes were closed to the truth of the scriptures that they supposedly studied all their lives..and they also were expecting Jesus to come and free them from their oppressors at the time which was Rome. and they had hardened their hearts to the truth ...it was written Isaiah 29: 13 The Lord says: "These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men. Also I wanted to point out that the Old testament even foretold that they would not recognise the Messiah as it is written in Isaiah 6:9 He said, "Go and tell this people:
" 'Be ever hearing, but never understanding;
be ever seeing, but never perceiving.'
10 Make the heart of this people calloused;
make their ears dull
and close their eyes. [a]
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed."

because Jesus was not the warrior they were expecting, he did not fight a bloody war to free the Jews from slavery. He told them things they did not like to hear. The truth hurts! He was a rebel who upset everyone and paid for it with his life and did it willingly like a lamb to slaughter! For everyone!
Many Jews did accept him they were the first Christians.

Because the Jews didn't want to believe him. You can find that all along the history of prophets. When ever a new prophet came he'd be rejected by his people. Take a look at the history of the prophets before Jesus and you'll find that.
good luck.

Hebrews did not prophesy Jesus or anything like him.
That's why his myth had to be spread somewhere other than Jerusalem. Ever wonder why the real birthplace of Christianity is Rome and not Jerusalem? And, did not occur until 300 years after the events it claims to represent?
