LOL, great question. I will return to see how others answer you as well.

My answer is as follows: Things Happening for a Reason, are things that you created or allowed to happen sometime in the past. Will it carry over from past lives? I'm not sure. Have you ever heard of the Law Of Attraction? This Law states (like the law of gravity) that if something you want is harmonious with the Universe, than you will be presented with it.

So for example, You are utterly terrified of cancer and of losing your mother. Not neccessarily of losing her to Cancer, but just her passing on in general. You happen to dwell on these negative thoughts, making your personal universe an unhappy place. To compensate, the Universe sends your mother cancer and she passes on in a year. Now those negative thoughts are a reality, and your universe is again nuetralized. That is my theory on why Things Happen for a Reason.

It also "happens" because of your free will to dwell on the negative. If you always think positively, then positive things will always be attracted to you.

Free will is when you decide how-when-why to do something. It affects not only you, but those around you and can even spread out locally, regionally or globally.
Not getting the job you really wanted is a good example of "things happen for a reason".
I had a hard time getting a job- until the right one opened up- and it happened because of a reason.

Paradox, I always love your questions. The answer is not an easy one. You cannot have it both ways. Either god has a plan for all of us and works in mysterious ways or we have free will. Unfortunately, if you believe in an all powerful, all knowing, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent god that knew all that would happen before the first act of creation then you cannot believe in free will. Most believers in god do not see the paradox in their beliefs and use faith as a catch all reason to get themselves out of circular thought that makes no logical sense.

There are things that happen beyond our control. Such as the Sun rising in the morning. There are things in our control.. such as when to get out of bed after or before the Sun has risen.

What we have control over ALONE is what we shall be held responsible for. Please check a longer more detailed answer I gave on this subject about two minutes ago, if you kindly will. Go to my name and see my answers. I ask this in humility, as I am too lazy to write the whole answer one more time.

May the Lord bless you for asking the question and trying to get your doubts cleared. Amen.

When do things happen for a reason, God allows it to happen for a purpose.

When does it happen, is it because of free will?

1) When done by men, it because of mens choice - he reap the consequences of his choice either good or bad
2) When God sees it fit - He allows it to happen for a purpose and a reason

things have different purposes in life whether they be good or bad,if we didn't have trials and tribulations we wouldn't learn anything. also some things happen as a consquence of our actions. you reap what you sow. put it through einstein who said for every action there is an equal reaction be it good or bad. noone was promised that things would easy. and the only way we can react to a situation is to go through one so we can help others who are expreiencing the same thing and can't handle it.

Everything you experience has powerful personal significance. If you learn to read this, you can see you are guided, all the time.
You appear to have free will to act upon this intelligence, but really the more you read the signs, the more obvious your course of action becomes. So slowly you surrender your free will to wisdom, and then truth.

Everything happens depending upon environment. You have free will to either try and compete with the environment or cooperate with it.
In the end, you are not judged, but your species is. If your species has no Net Creativity, then it will go extinct.

Will is the reason for all things that happen. Its just not our will that is the cause of things.(very little in fact)

We didn't will the world into creation, God did.
Accept it and follow Jesus Christ, lord and savior of the world.

Praise Jesus Christ
