What always works for me is eating something minty like a candy cane or mint gum. And if that doesn't work roll down the windows a crack and stick one hand out, then close you're eyes and relax(BUT DON'T DO THIS IF YOU'RE THE DRIVER!).

The ideas I've seen above are good. I'd like to add try taking deep, even breaths (especially when you feel really sick...like, to try to get the feeling to pass) and try not to read, use your cell phone, play a game...anything that'll keep your head down is not so good. I look outside at something kind of in the distance but not too far, like the trees along the side of the road. Sitting in the front seat also helps me, but tends to make people who have to sit in the back because of me angry...but too bad! Good luck.

I was told that it tends to be worse the father you are away from the driver's seat. So, if you're not driving, the next best place to be is in the passenger seat, then after that, behind the driver, and the worst place to be is the right side of the back seat.
Also, try looking out the front instead of out the sides.
And you can always take Dramamine: http://www.pfizerch.com/product.aspx?id=257

sit in the passengers seat , if not sit as close to the front as you can take a couple drammamine and look at the lines on the road in front of you, never sit back wards and never lay down and crank the cold air and put it directly in your head, if you need some thing a little extra put the window half way down. never read.

I have trouble with that too. Coke Classic or ginger ale seem to help a lot.
