Hey,

I am cooking for 4 or 5 tonight. I figure if I get 2 - 2.5 lbs of meat, that should definitely be enough.

What type of steak do you suggest? I know flank steak is good, but 2.5 lbs of flank steak might be difficult to fit in the broiler?

Is there a good alternative? What cut of beef?

(We do not have access to a grill, we can either sear the steak, or broil it).

Thanks!

I would use flank steak -- cut it in strips. It may be a lot for your broiler, but you can also consider that some people like it more done and less done, so you could put some in and really get it well done, put in a bowl with foil and a towel over top and then do the less well stuff, and then serve so all can eat together.

I agree with the round steak, inexpensive but turns out well in a broiler or grill. If you had time, I suggest crock potting with onions and green peppers. 4 hrs. high. 6 to 8 hours low. Add 1/2 c. water. good luck!

Flank is always good, but you may want to consider New York Strips or Delmonicos. They're smaller and you don't have to cook them all at once. I've used Delmonico as a substitute in other dishes and it was yummy. A little overkill, but you can probably get a good deal on the strip steaks.

How much money do you have to spend?? ;-)

Flank sounds fine also rib or minute steak.
Should be able to slice thinly and cook with the seasoning in a skillet.

If you are thinly slicing it, just get a Round Steak. A lot of meat for the money.
