Begin by taking really long walks, say, to and from work, friends' houses, school, etc. Do not take that ride offered. Take the bus so that you have to walk at least a little when the distance is way too long.

Then start doing 20 to 30 reps of weights to get your body back into doing all of that work. Do these reps twice--2 sets of 20 or 30, etc. Then reduce the reps down to 15 after a month or 2.

Then, to become Arnold Schwartzenagger, short of steroid usage, he did at least 3 sets of 8 reps. 3 sets of reps are suggested by most trainers.

By reps I mean that you take the weight into your hand and lift/move it 20 to 30 times (at the beginning) until you cannot do it anymore. Then dwindle that number of reps down until it gets to 8.

Remember to stretch, warm up, then work out, and then cool down and stretch again. The stretching is a work out in and of itself, and may be more important that the lifting of weights all together.

Stay safe.

Well i just started working out and i use an elliptical machine. When i first started working out i could only go for like 5 min it took me a few weeks but now i am up to 25 min. Its better than walking because you can do it at home if you have one. If not i got mine at Walmart for 150.00, and it tells you the calories you burned, how far you walked, how many fat calories you burned, how fast you were going and your heart rate.

Welcome to the club. The best way to lose weight (besides diet, of course) is cardio. The best way to tone up and gain strength is weight training. The trick to not kill yourself is just to start slow and add time, distance, weight gradually. We'll get there. It just takes a little determination and commitment.

Check with your doctor before you start anything. Then be sure to warm up before and take it slow.
