I have just been told to watch my carbs due to my triglycerides being high. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to go on a low carb diet without "withdrawls". I love carbs. Do any of you have any good recipes that you love that would taste as good as a carb recipe? Thank you for your time and kindness.

I don't really eat sweets or drink sodas. I do eat alot of carbs, pastas, breads, potatos, etc.... My HDL is low, so I do need to exercise also. I do not want to cut out all the carbs. Thanks for all your answers.
Thank you Christine. I have heard about the "mashed" potatos before and thought ewwwww, but with the bacon in it, it makes it sound more yummm. I will try it.

I agree with some of the other answers that you should be careful not to try to cut out ALL carbs. Remember that fruits and vegetable have carbs and you still need to eat these regularly.

I have a great faux "mashed potato" recipe. It came from a low-carb cookbook.

You use a head of cauliflower cooked in salted, boiling water until soft. Mash it and mix it with some butter, salt, pepper and shredded cheddar cheese. Put in a greased casserole dish and sprinkle with crumbled bacon. Bake at 350 until bubbly. YUM!

i would encourage you, though, not to try to go "no carb." you need some carbs, getting them mostly from vegetables. even atkins, which is one of the most restrictive plans, gives you 20 carbs a day of allowed foods for the first two week period of induction.

i would encourage you also to read up on the various plans and pick one to start working with. many will modify plans to suit them, but that seems to be most helpful when you've followed one a while and gotten a feel for how it works for you. starting out without a clear plan can really make it hard to stay on course.

of course you may already know all this, as you say you're "back." but in case you dont....

and hello!

You can substitute a lot of things for low carb wraps, pitas, and pasta. You can make personal pizza's using a law carb pita, you can still eat pasta (low carb), and instead of bread out sandwich meat and cheese in a low carb wrap. Many possibilities! :)

try the south bech diet and do some lite exercise. If you don't wanna follow a diet, all you gotta do is cut back on the white bread, sweets, soda, pasta, fruit juice unless their freshly squeezed. If it's for a good cause, you won't have a problem....

Honestly, when you don't have them for a few days, you don't crave them as bad. The glycogen level in your body drops and so do the cravings. get your good carbs from whole wheat breads, fruits, etc.
