Yet there is the sword of the Kingdom. His spoken Word.

NQV,
When Jesus told them to sell garment to buy sword they came up with two swords. Jesus said "It is enough.". This is before they went to the mount of Olives. One of those swords cut off the ear that Jesus put back on.

The sword that divides up the family is that some in the family will believe Jesus is the Christ and Son of God & some won't. We are to love Jesus even if our family is hell bent against it. Today, family will kill or disown it's own family member because one made Jesus Christ ones Lord.

Also, David did have the husband of Bathsheba put in the front lines to cover His adultery with Bathsheba. Yes, David suffered a judgment from the Lord. So David did some bad things & suffered from those wrong choices. But, He also was a man after God's own heart. And was prophetic in the Psalms. Jesus is the Son of David also. And Jesus also is the Lord of David. Then the question of how Jesus can be both the son of David & His Lord.

Also, Moses was part of the old covenant, and there was fighting to survive. Moses warrior acts were according to God's Word though. Obedient to God. Except the time He killed the Egyption who was abusing the Hebrew slaves. That wasn't by God's command so was a wrong choice.

Jesus Christ made it clear that His Kingdom isn't won by the physical man made sword.

With the return of Christ & the beast & false prophet are slain & thrown into the lake of fire. And Satan is thrown into the Abyss. (Revelation)

Peter and all the Jewish people was looking for a King to reign on earth. Jesus did not come to live but to die. His Kingdom is not of this earth but of Heaven. So when Peter taught that he was helping Jesus, he was a spiritual setback. The natural man cannot understand spiritual things.

You need to understand the meaning of the word to LIVE BY THE SWORD? If you are a soldier, THEN you live by the sword. If you are being an aggressor THEN you live by the sword. In this case, Peter was the aggressor. The servant of the Priest had not cut off Peter's ear. Had that happened, then Peter would be retaliating in justice, although it would be better in such a situation to forgive, rather than retaliate.

Remember also that Jesus claimed upfront that he has come to bring sword and to put father against son and neighbor against neighbor. Also remember that Jesus had his companions sell their clothes to buy swords (Do a search on "Sword", in the New Testament at this website www.hti.umich.edu/k/kjv where you will find this verse)and check your own bible that Jesus DID ORDER SWORDS to be BOUGHT by selling their clothes!!! no less.

Jesus never once spoke against King David who clearly killed a lot of people by all accounts. Instead he called himself the Son of David. Would someone who does not admire Hitler, would not call himself a son of Hitler. God forbid I am not implying David was in any way like Hitler at all... my point is, David killed and Jesus associated himself not only with David but the City of Jersusalem that came about due to David's "Labors" of killing his tens of thousands.

That said, it is clear in my heart and mind that David never killed for personal greed or grandeur but only in the line of duty to preserve the fragile monotheism that his forefathers had given him. I admire King David from the bottom of my heart and mind and David did not die by the sword, but died in peace in his bed.

Moses killed his three thousand in three days (Exodus 32:23), and Moses was not killed by the sword either. Our Prophet Mohammad also died in peace in his wn bed, although he had to fight and kill for the preservation of monotheism in his society, although the level of bloodshed and killing perpetrated or witnessed by either David or even Moses far exceeded all the killings (less than 2700 on all sides) that our Prophet saw during his eight years of war.

I hope this makes sense.

He also told seventy of his followers to take swords with them as they preached in his place. At the time, Jesus was about to be arrested. This had to take place or God's plan of salvation would not have come about. It was not the right time for a fight and Jesus was reminding Peter of this,

Jesus tried to teach Love not agrression or hatred of anyone and focussed on peaceful settlements by sitdown negotiations rather than bloody battle. There is no war or battle in Heaven and we have a hard time imagining a truly peaceful Kingdom.

Because peter came out to his dense and cut off the temple guard's sevant's ear, and it wasn't a time for fighting as it was time for prophecy and scripture to be fulfilled. for when you go and fight you die fighting, and his mission was of peace and redemption and not war and judgement. He allowed them to carry swords for protection. Had it been time to fight he would've called a legion of warrior angels to join the fight. the war was meant for the future.

He meant a physical sword, not the spiritual sword.

He meant that violence is not the answer, but as you know according to history, no religion has ever taken their oath against murder very seriously.
