Gin is neutral alcohol (grain spirits, etc) that's redistilled with juniper berries and other botanicals. The alcohol vapor picks up the essences of the juniper and herbs and they condense with the alcohol. It's then cut with purified water to 40% alcohol.

Sometimes the botanicals are simply steeped in the spirits, but the first method collects more delicate and purer flavors.

It's made from grain then distilled and then re-distilled with juniper berries and other botanicals. Then distilled water is added until the alcohol level is somewhere between 80 and 95 proof
