Two or three bites of hot dog will do no harm. Chihuahuas should not have any processed meat, as it can cause brain swelling, but other breeds seem to do OK...However, hot dogs are too fatty to give more than a little, if given daily..could cause an attack of inflamed pancreas...Raw or cooked makes no diffrence..Hot dogs are pre-cooked..extra cooking may reduce the fat in them..
The stuff in hot dogs is far safer than the garbage in most brands of dog food..

The hotdogs aren't exactly raw. But they are high in fat, grease, etc. Small breeds like the maltese, shih-tzu, etc. have problems with pancretitis. This is an inflamation of the pancreas. It's seen most of the time from owners feeding their small breed dogs highly fatty, highly greasy food. Feeding a couple bites every now and then is ok, but feeding it on a regular basis or in large amounts could cost them 2-3 thousand in vets bills. If they just have to give them "human" food in the morning. Try something like grilled/baked chicken (boneless/skinless). Or they have these little Chicken Stick things in the baby food section that kind of look like little vienna sausages. Try to get them to stick to feeding the pups dog food and dog treats only.

oh geesh, let the dogs live a little! Your parents are spoiling the dogs and thats okay. They are just being nice to them. I would give my dogs hotdogs now and then, not every morning, but they lived to be very old and were always healthy. I had a friend that use to cook for her dog. When I would baby sit them if she went out of town, I had to cook hotdogs or hamburger. They were small dogs and lived to be 15 and 16. They were happy and fat.

Your parents aren't trying to hurt the dog. They think that giving the dog human food is an act of kindness. Really, dog food is best, but what can you do?

Good Luck and Take Care

In moderation and as a treat, I doubt that it'd do that much harm. But feeding them hot dogs every day is another matter.

Hot dogs aren't particularly good for humans, let alone dogs. Too many preservatives, for one thing, and even mild spices like those used in the average hot dog can upset a dog's stomach. Plus, the dog's appetite is satiated, and it won't eat its own healthier dog food.

A friend's dad used to feed his Cocker spaniel hot dogs all the time, and the dog died at age 4. It would only eat the hot dogs and not its dog food. I can't swear that the two things are related, but I won't bet against it, either.

first of all hot dogs arent raw when you buy them.... they are already cooked and just need to be heated up.... i personally think it will do no harm though if they are going to feed the dogs raw meat its better to give them beef as its more natural.... the only problem with this is the dogs will have to be treated for worms more as worms breed in raw meat.

We had a rescuer closed up for the same reason. It's the worst diet for little ones... unless your folks are looking for their malteses to have very short lives.

Too many preservatives and spices in there to be doing their dogs any good. Why not get them to boil some liver, then put it in a slow oven and bake it until a bit hard - dogs love it and bites of liver would be much better for them than hot dogs.

We used to feed our Lab hot dogs until he ended up in hospital for 5 days. Don't do it. It will make them very sick.

I'd recommend cooking the hotdogs first.
