Yes! In my opinion, no allergy should be taken lightly. Wear and Allergy ID bracelt, necklace, whatever. Carry something in your wallet/purse that also identifies your allergies. Penicillin is found in a lot of drugs and everyone should be aware of your allergy in case of an emergency. I almost lost my mom a couple of years ago because she was allergic to HCTZ and no one knew. Now that we know, we aren't going to risk another chance of losing her. Remember, even a mild reaction can later have a severe reaction. Also, carry an Epi-Pen. I do because I'm allergic to everything under the sun. I'm even allergic to seafood, which probably means I'm allergic to iodine. It's good to notify people, especially family.

Hi cheerlea,
I too am alergic to penicillin,as well as codine.
The best thing for you to do is to get hold of Medic Alert in Canada the e./mail address is:http://www.medicalert.ca
In the USA the e./mail address iswww.medicalert.org
I have been wearing a Medic Alert ancle bracelet for years & it has sved my life a few times, as i'm an asthmatic too so a few times I had an asthma attack while out & went into an asthmatic shock from not being able to breathe. People have come to my rescue before paramedics arrived & read my Medic Bracelet, got my puffers from my purse & helped me to inhale them which saved my life.
The Medic Alert foundation has all sorts of different jewelry in silver or gold in many styles.
I had my anclet one designed for me,as I couldn't wear one on my wrist or a necklace with my kids when they were small, as they tended to pull on them too much & a few got snapped from their chain, so I got one designed by a jeweler for my ancle.
You can also go to any DRUGSTORE & purchase a NEKLACE ONE or a WRIST One with Alergic to Penicillin on it that is just a silver coating or bronze plated very cheaply, but it does the job.
Be very carefull with this ,as it is a serious health issue, so please get something to wear to identify this allergy. It may just save your life some day.

I would keep an EPI pen with you at all times, and keep it in an allergy case, along with a little note in the case that says you are allergic to penicillin. My daughter is severely allergic to Brazil nuts, that is what I do for her. I also keep allergy pills in her case in the even she gets mild symptoms of allergy. It never hurts to be too safe.

There are medic alert bracelets and tags you can buy. And yes, it is a very good idea to have something to warn the doctors not to give you penicillin.

you can get a medical alert braclet or there is a program called vitalchart that has your entire medical record on a flash drive that you can attach to your key chain (vitalchart.com)
