My hair is also wavy ,, and I have used many fast ways in order to make it straight...Here is what i have used....
1- there is something called Yoko System. This system makes you hair straight for 6 to 8 months, even if you take a shower every day, but you have to go to a professional salon...
2- the other way, which I prefer.. is using a shampoo to make your hair looks straight. I'm using a shampoo from L'OREAL Paris, which is called (ELVIVE- smooth-intense) . It is really goooood.
3- You can use a serum is also from L'OREAL, but i can't remember it's name. What I can remember is that it is an orange bottle.

If you don't want to deal with straitening it yourself, the easiest thing to do is to get a Japanese thermal straightening treatment at a professional salon. This should last several months and then every time you wash it, it will be straight and you can just go or blow dry as you like.
If you don't want to go the chemical route then you are going to need some form of heat- how fast this is depends on how good you get with the routine (could be as little as 15 minutes). You could try a smoothing shampoo and conditioner first, which will coat the hair a bit and make it lay down flatter, making the waves less prominent. L'Oreal Vive Smooth Intense is good, Kerestasse for higher end is also good. Then you Will need to put your hair into about four sections and blow dry using a large paddle brush, making sure the roots are very dry all the way to the ends. Don't forget to use some sort of glossing serum like John Frieda, Ojon or the L'Oreal Vive version to finish, making sure you go to the ends to lock in and make sure there is no frizz. Make sure to also get regular trims to since your hair is so long! You don't want it to look to weighed down.

They say, "The end justifies the means." But this will work.... rolling your hair in Huge rollers and sleeping on them at night, freshly washed of course, will give you over night curls to calm and straight, just like that! One Day.... Simple. Inexpensive. Doesn't damage your hair. Lasts a whole day. Yeah!
Try it and then answer me about your result to my response.

My hair is past my butt and curly as well. I use a straightener when I want it straight for a day and it only takes 30 minutes for me to straighten it.

Other than using a flat iron, the only thing I can think of is going to a stylist and getting a "reverse perm" so that it stays straight for a few months.

those shampoos that claim to straighten it before you iron it. Im not sure if it works tho. I know they have different shampoos & stuff that fit into whichever hair type you are:

look at this one too:

other tips on hair straightening:
For best results blow dry straight down, and I read in seventeen magazine using a round paddle brush is good for straight hair-not sure why.

wash & blowdry (use Aveda's Hang Straight). If it's still wavy -run over it with a straight iron

It's according to how the natural texture is. If it's only slightly wavy then a straitening iron should do it.

Use an iron on a LOW setting. Have a friend help you.
If you can afford it go to a reputable hair spa.
