Watch for signs of depression. Often signs are overlooked. If you are concerned, ASK them. Also, remember MORE people commit suicide when everyone thinks they are getting better. The reason: A really depressed person, doesn't have the energy. A recovering person has the energy and a very strong desire not to experience that severe of depression again. Watch for the classical signs of depression and offer to listen. You can listen and care, but you can't stop a determined person.

Tough one. No one answer could be the answer here. Search the web for info. A pervading feeling of sadness for most of each day, Loss of interest in almost everything, Appetite change, Weight Loss or Gain, Inability to sleep, Agitation, Fatigue, Feelings of worthlessness, Lack of concentration, Giving away of personal possessions......etc. Not everyone is the same. Some people never show any signs.

The first thing is to trust your female intuition. Suicide is a great concern, however if your genes are strong, you really don't have too much to concern yourself with. You can have your children's DNA tested to be sure. Does your husband show signs of depression? If so, have him tested. Secondly, seek the counseling of a medical facility that deals with this type of illness and the testing thereof. Go to the library and read up on the signs if any are present.

The list the first person posted is very accurate, but you have to pay close attention. Many times you don't see the signs until after they have tried to commit suicide or have succeeded at it. It's sort of like you're blind to the signs until it is to late.

Well people usually talk about life a lot, and what the point of living is. They may express opinions that life isn't worth living. They may not show interest in things that used to matter to them. If they have no one to connect to these things are especially dangerous. Just be there for them. It runs in my family, but because I have good people in my life, I know there's meaning in life.

Google it. I 'm not sure why so many people ask questions that can be easily googled. But it's loss of interest in friends/ activities, acting withdrawn, change in eating habits, change in school - doing poorly, giving away personal items, talking about feeling empty and that life is not worth living , loss of concentration and an obbession with dieing and the "afterlife"
