Her kits have now started eating on their own since one week ago, but they still will not drink milk or water from a bowl, only from their mother. This is unusual because the previous litters, started to eat and accept drinks at the same time. She had 5 kits and now is getting fed up with them and seems to have little milk now. Although she still feeds them maybe 3-4 times a day, but only for a couple of minutes.
I want to wean them fully, as I want to get her speyed this time. Should I completely seperate her from them, hoping that when they are thirsty they will drink?
Another questiion. Is it possible for her to get pregnant again while she is still nursing them?
Hope someone can give me advice. Thanks

Yes, you can separate them now. In fact, you can safely separate them at: 4-6 weeks.
Yes, it is possible for her to get pregnant again while she is nursing them.
To get the kittens to drink water, separate them from mom, and put their little paws in a bowl of cool water. If they don't start drinking then put the tips of their noses in the cool water. Make sure the water is cool and fresh.
I would take mama cat to the vet this week to have her fixed. We waited too long with our cat and she got pregnant when her kittens were only 6 weeks old. I thought her milk would have to dry up before she got pregnant again and I was so wrong. The vet told me to bring her in the minute the new kittens start eating moist food which could be as early as 4 weeks old.

Since they are over the age of 6 weeks, they should be fine separated from their mother. However, milk from the mother is still the best source of nutrients for the kittens. But if the mother is no longer supplying milk, just leave water next to their food. They will eventually get the idea that that is what they should be drinking. (my cats did anyway)

Yes it is possible for her to get pregnant while nursing. I hope you are not using cow milk to feed them. Just use Cat Sip or what ever Kitten Replacement Milk is at your pet store.
I got both of our Siamese when they were 6 weeks. The girl is 18 months younger than her brother and nursed on him (LOL it is true) more for comfort than for liquids. It would not hurt to separate them now that they are 8 weeks and Mom would probably appreciate it.

First take them away from mama cat,so they will be hungry, and not be able to get milk from her, trust me they are old enough to ween off of their mama now. Also try mixing some warm (goat milk) in with the canned cat food: Just put the milk in the dish with the food, and mix it really well with a fork: It worked when I had to teach baby kittens,I was having to bottle feed,to eat on their own. Once they learn to drink the milk in with the canned food, you can gradually change to water, and eventually separate the water, and food. Good luck

Don't give them cows milk. Fresh water only if they are thirsty they will drink. The mom can and probably will go into heat soon again. So its fine to get her spayed and let the kittens start drinking.

I'm glad you are getting the mother spayed. Its not good for them to have too many litters of kittens. Can't say for sure, but I think the cat can get pregnant when shes nursing. You could call a vets office about it.

Having her fixed now will solve all your problems..they are old enough to drink water on their own.. do not give them milk. They cannot digest cows milk.. cows milk is for cows.. Once she is away for a day in surgery, they will drink.. and when she returns, she will not permit them to drink..keep her separated after the surgery til the next day.. she will need to rest and need quiet time. I did my cat the exact same way.. everyone was fine

she will eventually stop letting them nurse but separating them is a good idea and then make sure ther's plenty of liquid around for them to drink. i'm not sure about the nursing and not getting pregnant but i don't think she can. seems i've heard this b4. call ur local pet aide league and they can put u with a vet that will spay her 4 less than just going to the vet will cost, it is a considerable savings. good l uck
