Pregnancy In A Female Cat???

Question

When is a female cat able to get pregnant? Does she have heat like a dog? What age can it happen? What will the symptoms of the pregnancy be? And how long will a pregnancy last?

After 6 months old, you will know when she is on heat as she will walk around with a stiff tail shaking it (like a shiver or stretch) If there is a male nearby she will call to it and he will call back. as the pregnancy goes by you will notice that she is more hungry, and the swelling happens on either side, she will be more clingy around you as well. As labour occurs she will meowing a lot and pacing up and down, she will have a short temper too with other cats and will not settle until she has chosen a place to birth.

I would suggest in the last week or so lying a box on its side with the flap on the top hanging down (they like the dark to give birth.)

Leave her to the birth more or less just make sure she knows you are there if possible, and make sure there is plenty of food and water around when she has finished - she will be very hungry all the time she is feeding.

My Cat actually presented her kittens one by one to me! Often when I came home from work she would then bring them to me so I could babysit while she went off for food and a nap, really sweet. Your cat should show her kittens when she feels they are ready to use the litter tray and how to eat solids, you may just have to remind them now and then , but every kitten she has had (3 litters) has been litter trained by 6 weeks!

She does go on heat, though I don't know if it's similar to how a dog goes on heat. And she can do it from about 9 months - 1 years old I believe. And when it happens, you will know without a shadow of a doubt it's happening! She'll be constantly surrounded, even cornered, by all the male cats in the near vicinity - it's quite distressing to see actually! And you'll know when she's pregnant because suddenly the male cats will disappear! I'm not sure how long the pregnancy lasts though. How lucky you are!! Soon you'll have little fluffy balls all over the place!!

A female cat usually can get pregnant from 6mth old. She does not show any 'bleeding' like dogs, but will start to roam around the house looking fro a way out to follow her natural instinct and be mated. She will also meow endlessly, and rub herself aginst you looking for affection and roll erotically on the floor, and against your foot. If a Tom were available, these are all signs to him that she is in heat and ready to mate, giving him the 'come on'.
Pregnancy lasts 63-68 days, and the first signs are increase in nipple size and rounding of the tummy. She will also have an increase in appetite later, and her vaginal opening will become more prominent (swollen) during the last days. She may have a bloody discharge on the day she goes into labour. She will start to look for a place to nest in the last couple of weeks, usually cupboards. Keep an eye open when you know she is due to give birth, and prepare a bed for her in a quiet area of the house, and put her in there the last few days. Female cats can hit puberty from about 3 months on, cats don;t have "heat" like a dog, instead they ovulate ( release and egg) at the time of mating. They can get pregnant any time after maturity ( around 3-6 months) Symptoms of pregnancy include rounding of the abdomen, nipples get more obvious, nesting behaviour. Only way to tell for sure before kittens are born is a trip to the vet. Sorry, can't remember how long it lasts but think it is a numer of weeks, not months, again a vet can tell you

A female cat is able to become pregnant at around 5-6 months old, they will become more lovable, rubbing against things, purring more than normal, also if you use a feather or q-tip and touch it lightly around the vaginia she will "expose herself" lift her tail, may even make a funny noise (I'm not kidding or trying to be perverse) we used to use this test when I worked for vets and we wanted a quick way to tell if a cat was in heat. She may even yowl. SHE WILL STAY IN HEAT UNTIL SHE BECOMES PREGNANT OR GETS SPAYED, so get her spayed. Don't let her go thru a heat cycle, if she does then she is more likely to have problems in the future. Please, please, please don't let her get pregnant, there are enough kittens, cats out there that need homes, please do not contribute to the overpopulation by letting her have kittens. Gestation (pregnancy) is 62-64 days. You can have her spayed even if she's pregnant as long as she's not too far along. Symptoms of pregnancy are of course weight gain and production of milk in the glands, near the end of pregnancy just before labor she will start collecting cloths and building a "nest" soft bundle of cloths etc to lay in and have her babies.
I hope you will consider having her spayed and be sure to get her vaccinated too. It's the right and responsible thing to do as a loving, caring owner.

Cats can become sexually mature anytime from 5 months onwards, it depends on the individual cat. You'll know when she comes in season, you'll have every tomcat within a mile spraying up your back door and cat-a-whauling at all hours. At six months you can get a female cat spayed. It might seem expensive, but in the long run it is much cheaper than rearing kittens. A cat can give birth to a litter of up to 6 kittens (sometimes more), as soon as those kittens are weaned she will come straight into season again. Imagine a cat giving birth to 6 kittens every 4 months. Within a year there will be 18 more cats. If everyone of those starts breeding at six months, and each one is responsible for 6 kittens per litter at 3 litters a year, your looking at...well... a lot more cats. There is no guarentee that you will find homes for them all.

Just get her neutered, I don't know much about a cats birth rate, but I do know, from having cats, it's fairly high and pretty difficult to tell unless you are looking out for it. I had a cat once who went missing for a few days, we found her in a spare bedroom with a litter of 5 kittens about 3 days old hidden under the bed in old sheets and stuff!!!!
If you don't want kittens yourself though, do get her neutered, there are too many unwanted animals around as it is, especially cats and dogs.
In saying that I don't know if it's true, but I've heard you should let an animal have at least one litter before neutering her, we've always done that, but have always had homes arranged before the births too.

the cat has to b over 6 mo. old yes she goes into heat every 6 mo i believe . symptoms r the same as any animal they put on weight and it lasts about 3 months
