I read articles saying that powerlifters have "no core", just muscle in their arms and legs. Can somebody explain what the core of the body does/is/for?

the "core" is comprised of your lower back, hip, and abdominal muscles. they form the basis for all movement whether it be upper or lower body. over the past ten years, it has been realized what an important role they play in fitness as well as everyday life. poor core stability can lead to back pain, knee pain, hip pain, feet pain, etc. the exercises centered around one of the large inflatable balls usually work the core. you can go online and find exercises or ask a trainer.

The "core" is your abs (obliques, upper and lower) and you back muscles. It is very important to have strong abdominals. A great way to strengthen them is with pilates. Another great way is to use a balance ball. The "core" gives your entire body support and will improve your posture and balance.

Abdominal muscles are your core. When ever you do any movements you should be using your core. Breath in deeply and as you do push your belly button to your spine, then exhale out while still holding your belly in. Try it you will feel stronger.
