Both boost pressure in the intake system and the cylinders. Turbochargers are driven by the exhaust it spins a turbine which compresses/adds pressure to the intake system. Superchargers are a compressor driven directly by the crankshaft (pulley and belt) which directly compresses the intake system. Turbochargers also add heat to the intake system since the compressor is driven by the exhaust. The heat problem is partially solved by using an inter-cooler which is a radiator for the compressed air in the intake system. They also rob less power. I have driven/owned both types of cars and I prefer supercharged cars because they are more responsive to throttle usage both on and off. They both require different driving skills to drive fast because of the difference in throttle response.

On motorcycles the systems are the same as cars...just scaled down for the smaller engine.

Perry L has the answer. I too prefer the Superchargers. They do not drive a fan, or are not driven by the drive shaft. Turbos do have turbo lag at lower RPMs, but there are definite ways around that. Cam selection is a factor, plus others. Both turbos and Superchargers can have the boost adjusted. Turbos can be set up to adjust manually as you drive/race. Superchargers basically just need a change of pulleys. Superchargers do take a little hp to run, but if you do like I do, run electric water pump, fuel pump, etc. that will more than make up for any power loss. Yes they have superchargers for motorcycles too. I have run both, but with my taste in cars, now I only run Superchargers. Perry L got it right.

both systems do the same thing but its how that do it that is different, superchargers are much heavier and take the engines power to turn them where turbos are very light and take the cars exhaust to power them but turbos do no work untill the engine reaches a certain rpm which will not help your acceleration and will cause lag and superchargers are always working which will improve your engines proformance at all rpms. so both have there advantages and disadvantages it just depends on what you want or need one for

Supercharger is a compressor that runs off the driveshaft via a belt. that means that you get the power throughout the rpms. Turbo runs off of the exuast gases that are from the motorr. which means that you have to get into the rpms. for you to get the power. for a car a supercharger is better. Turbo is better for a motorcycle.

Superchargers take power from the engine itself to turn a fan that blows air in your engine. Turbos take the power from your exshaust(sp?) in order to turn a fan and shove more air into the engine. many cars and motorcycles can handle them you have to find out which ones can.

good way to explain it is supercharger goes on top of engine, more like the intake as for turbocharger goes on bottom, using exhaust.

Not sure of the difference, and can't explain them mechanically, all I can tell you is my car has a bi-turbo (Audi A6 2.7T) and that car has the best pick-up and power of anything I've ever driven!
