Sin? Probably not. But if you love her then why would you give her a name that has been synonomous with WHORE. Do ya think other kids in grade school are gonna figure this out? YES

In the Bible, Jezebel wanted to kill the prophet Elija, she was a Phoenician princess that introduced into Israel the worst forms of Phoenician worship instead of worshipping God. Some fo the Phoenician worship was human sacrifice.
It is not a sin to name your daughter this, however now a Jezebel is considered a loose woman.
I would come up with a better name. Like Jessica or Joanna or Shibboleth (a flowing stream or a head of grain, Hebrew)

Actually, I've always thought Jezebel is a beautiful name as well. Indeed, the Biblical Jezebel was beautiful. However, she was also evil. Unfortunately, the name Jezebel remains connected with her and the connotations are ugly. It's like Adolph. Please don't saddle your daughter with that kind of moniker. It's not that it's a sin, but it would be horrible for her to be associated with an infamous whore.

Jezebel is a beautiful name, but I would re-consider. Jezebel was considered a "whore" and defying God. It is not a sin to name your daughter that name, but many if not most will think of the Jezebel in the bible when they hear it.

Jezebel cheated on her husband. Cheating is a sin, but naming your child Jezebel is not.

Just keep in mind that the older generation uses the word jezebel like we use the word whore.

To give a brief summary, it would be "She was not a god-fearing woman". You can read about her in the Old Testament. Elijah had his stand off on Mt. Carmel against her and the priests of Baal.

It is not a sin to name your daughter after Jezebel, but it would cripple her as much as naming a boy "Sue" or "Snigglefirtz" or something like that.

Music in the Old Bones: Jezebel Through the Ages by Janet Howe Gaines. Jezebel, who lived in the 9th century B.C., was a Phoenician princess who married King Ahab of Israel. She was hated as a foreigner and eventually murdered. Although she is remembered as a symbol of evil, this book argues that she was unfairly scapegoated through the ages.

Jezebel: Portraits of a Queen by Patricia Dutcher-Walls. Provides insight into two depictions of Jezebel: Jezebel the story character, taken from narrative criticism, and Jezebel the queen, drawn from a sociological study.

The Jezebel Letters: Religion and Politics in Ninth-century Israel by Eleanor Ferris Beach. Fictional account of an assassination conspiracy told from the viewpoint of the notorious Queen Jezebel. (Christian fiction)

there is nothing wrong with a name. Judas was the one who betrayed Jesus and people have named their child after him. ask yourself this question, do you want her to always defend her actions because of her name? to answer your question about who jezebel was; she was the wife of Ahab an evil king. she was responsible for killing some of the prophets and eventually fell from a wall and was eaten by the dogs. all that was left were her feet and hands. pretty brutal huh?

If there is such a thing as 'sin' (and I don't think there really is), it is in ACTIONS, not names. A name cannot be sinful, only committing an act can be sinful. Name her whatever you want, and understand that the only true sins are those things that make us feel bad and hurt others. Sin is an idea created by man in order to make other people behave according to the rules that man created.
