If you are a bargain shopper you can find really cool things, that look expensive, that aren't expensive at all. Don't criticize the women unless you know for sure what she spent on each goodie bag.

I am afraid the party bags I give out are very sparce!! At the end of the day - you invite the pals to the house or bouncy castle or pool or whatever and they are inviting your kids back to inevitably the same so it's even stevens so I don't see the need to be spending loads of money on party bags. A few sweets, juice and a balloon are the extent of my bags - and I haven't had a single complaint yet. In fact, most mothers are glad since they now feel they can calm down about them too without others moaning about them being 'mean'.
The party is the main thing. The bags are way behind in second place.

yes i do agree with you. i alway buy a couple of sweets and a bit of cake in. i would never put anything more in because i think children get enough these day without other people buying them thinks like that. these peoplewho put things like that in are just showing off how much money they have and setting the wrong impression for the children.the next party the children go to they will be expecting the same. a party is not about what is in the party bag its about having fun while you are there.

Oh, my gosh, yes; I also hate it when the kids get a token bag of junk and I mean junk that has nothing to do wtih the party. At my one daughter's princess party, instead of a "goody bag" they each received (and we put a name on itwhen they walked in) a big princess water bottle (the kind with a straw) to use at the party for their punch, and to take home. I provided small bags for the pinata candy. I think some candy and one "favor" that goes with the theme is totally appropriate. At my 2 year old's farm party, we had a "easter egg hunt" except it was for little plastic farm animals and candy hidden around the yard. They collected those in these metal "milking pails" with a ribbon tied on the handle; that was their favor. At my 7 year old's recent party each girl was decked out in a grass skirt and silk flower lei and anklet; that along with the two crafts they made at the party were their favors.

I know someone who got an MP3 player in their SIX year old's party bag!
What is the world coming to? I know so many parents who give their kids £5 pocket money and £5 from the tooth fairy...Whats that about?
In my day it was a bit of birthday cake and a few sweeties in a party bag. 10p from the tooth fairy and 50p pocket money if I did the chores!
Guess some people try too hard. Over compensating perhaps?

As silly as it sounds although you may think she spent lots etc she may have gone into asda or tesco and got them when they have had dvd cd and pc games for sale at about 97p I have seen this many a time when out shopping not only that but there are so many things you could get for things like party bags and pass the parcel that you paid pennies for but look as if you have paid pounds for,
When my girls have had parties I have done the bags and presents for the games and some of them have been top notch things that you would think I paid a fortune for but I have just scanned all my local pound shops etc.

Parents have turned birthday parties into a competition instead of actually celebrating the birth of their child and allowing their kids to enjoy that day with friends and family and a bit of decoration and fun. I had great birthday parties growing up that definitely did not cost a fortune and I plan on throwing great parties for my daughter with a budget in mind.

I don't think everyone is going to be running out to buy that stuff to put into goodie bags. Most people are not able to afford that.
Maybe she was trying to hard to make sure her kids had friends. I wouldn't want my kid to have friends just for the simple fact that they got cool stuff at a party.

As a professional childrens entertainer, I find that parents tend to be in one of 3 groups when it comes to Goodie Bags...
One group feel that the bags aren't needed, and no need to spoil the children.
Another group has a lot of fun in preparing for the party, and make up bags themselves... they get stuff from £1 shops etc....One good way is to create Goodie Bag Covers on your Pc, and add a photo in there... (email me for a WORD document to make one jezterfezter@hotmail.com ) and slip the covers inside a 6"x9" Polygrip Seal bag. I've also created a "fun book" that you can print out and use as one of the novelty items ... once again ask me for a copy, and please state if your printer is a standard A4 or can go to A3.
The other group get me (as their entertainer) to supply them on a sale or return basis.
