It will depend on rather or not the company you write the check to uses the Check 21 option. That option simply allows a company to bypass sending the check to their own financial institution, then having the check go to the Federal Reserve before hitting your bank to clear. With Check 21 the company can simply just make a legal copy of the check and present it directly to the federal reserve to your bank. So you could write a check at 9am and the check could attempt to clear your bank by the end of the business day the day day you gave the check. Also some companies will just send the check through as a automated debit so that don't really need an actual paper check.
So if you write a check on Sunday it could in theory post on Monday. Just make sure you have the funds in your account.
For more information on how Check 21 works please check out: http://www.ffiec.gov/exam/check21/faq.htm

Nowadays it will. A few years ago you could beat it to the bank. Now a lot of the big stores, like Sears, will just email a copy of the check to the bank and get instant clearance from the bank's computer. If you bought something on Sunday Sears' computer would have it at the bank's computer before you left the shopping center. Your little feet aren't going to beat the speed of electronic messages so be ready for an overdraft charge (which the banks LOVE since it is effortless profit for them).

The advice about Post Dating a check is bad advice. There is no such thing. If you write and sign a check and it is taken to the bank then if the date was for the next day it does not matter. It still bounced. Don't do that.
How about just asking the person to not cash it until Tuesday. Be honest with them that the $ is not there. If you check bounces then they didn't get the money and they might get fees from their bank and that will probably upset them more than waiting a day longer for the money.

If you were to write a check on Sunday then i am sure it would make it to the bank by Monday morn, but the people who type in the checks wont pick them up until after 2 pm monday. so that night (Mon nite) it will post at Midnite. But there is one exception to the rule. If whoever you write the check to has one of those machines that works alot like a credit card machine where they take your chk and punch the acct number into the machine. Then it would post right then and there, much like using your debit cd.

Depends on the person you are writing it to. They could go to the bank on Monday and try and cash it. It would be better to ask the person if they could hold your check till Tuesday when you have the money in the bank.. If you KNOWINGLY write a bad check you COULD be charged CRIMINALLY, so be careful..

Think it depends on the bank but I would guess yes. If you dont have the $$, put a date on the check for a couple days later (dont tell em) most people dont even look at the date. (I do it all the time;-)

Depends on where they bank and where you bank - also depends on where they deposit it - also depends if you have draft protection.
