Says he is cold, pale face, red tired eyes, fatigue, NO fever, ears and lungs are clear, mild coughing...?
My son is four. He's been sick for 8 days now and his symptoms are not improving.

WE HAVE ALREADY SEEN A DOCTOR AND ARE GOING TO SEE ANOTHER ONE!!!!!!!!!! Doctor says he has a cold. Bullshit.

If you have any idea what could be causing this or have experienced this...please tell me!!

Today, he didn't even want to walk on his own and wanted to be carried.

it's good that you are getting a second opinion but colds can last up to 2 weeks.

Many flus last 10-14 days. What you're describing, really sounds like flu symptoms. He might also feel a little lightheaded, this is also a common symptom of this kind of flu. He'll appear more tired.

Keep him hydrated. Pedialyte is good, Gerber now makes one too. There's also Pedialyte pops you can try (look like freezie pops). If you don't have any of this on hand, Gatorade works well too. I use Gatorade in a bind, and keep it on hand. It also has a longer expiration date, so it keeps in the pantry well. Whatever you do, keep pushing the fluid. Chicken noodle soup is good to give. The more dehydrated he gets, the worse he'll feel.

If he's running a fever, chances are that he might get up and act better when the fever runs down. Little kids do this a lot. Keep alternating the Tylenol with the Motrin. Keep in mind that Tylenol is every 4 hrs, Motrin is every 6.

If he doesn't have a fever, and gets one over 101 after this point, he may need to be rechecked.

Give it a couple more days, let it finish running its course. If he doesn't have an ear, nose, or throat infection, antibiotics won't do any good anyways. Make sure that he's resting as much as possible, I wouldn't let him go play outside until he's 100%. Check for dehydration (dry mouth, no tears), if he's severely dehydrated, then he'll need to be rechecked.

This does NOT sound like an ordinary cold. Most kids can still bounce around and play with a mild cold...Also the symptoms sound alarming: the pale skin and fatigue. It could be anemia, or something much worse. GET HIM TO THE ER!

Also, don't let docs and nurses give you the runaround. Insist he be tested for things like anemia, bacterial infections, parasites (worms, for example) possible diseases of his organs (like liver or kidney failure), lead poisoning and such.

A good doctor should be able to get a preliminary diagnosis based on the symptoms and run the appropriate tests.

Take him to a different doctor immediately!!!

Could be the flu. It is going around and it is bad. My daughter & I both had it and had no fever. Our necks and backs got really sore - scary stuff... you start to wonder all kinds of things like meningitis, etc.? Just watch him closely and keep checking back with the docs. Ask around at pre-school/play groups/church/where ever he spends time with others to see if anyone else has had something similar.

If they still find nothing, request allergy tests, a blood panel and other diagnostic tests to be evaluated by a pediatric specialist. Hopefully it will have cleared up by then.

Good luck!

Well viral infections will usually cause a fever, so it is probable that it may be bacterial related. Also, cold to touch and pale complexion suggests it may be a circulitory problem. You did the right thing, seek opinion after opinion until they find out what the diagnosis is or your child(ren) get better. Parents instincts are usually right on. GL

you should have them check for mono. Thast how I felt when I had it and I was 15. I also had a sore throat. And we never found out where I got it from, so even if it isnt something thats going around they still could have it... Its worth a shot... all they do it a little blood test.

It could be just a cold, But TRUST your momma instincts, they will never lead you wrong. If you suspect that there is something wrong then by all means take him to another one.
I hope eveything turns out okay!
