It is a sign of affection...a sort of happy dance
I believe it is kinda like birds in the wild..they make that sort of motion when they regurgitate food for their young. Yeah, kinda gross..but it's a good thing. They are content.

when you have 2 or more parakeets i think its like some kind of nonverbal communication but when you just have one parakeet, i dont really know but mine bobs his head when hes happy, when im around or when i turn on music

Head bobbing is a mating and territorial gesture. maximum puppy vendors don t desire to think of their parakeet is attempting to mate with or venture them, so they assume he s only happy...yet that s not how parakeets artwork.

Try this out. Look in a mirror and say to yourself over and over again "I'm going to do it", "I'm going to do it", "I'm going to do it...!"Your head should be nodding by now.
Very optimistic bread of bird but a very apprehensive one I'm gonna but like to keep telling myself over an over.
It also has to do with courtship rituals but if you also look at men in a Night Club you will see the same thing. Just Alcohol induced rather than hormonal...LOL

Same reason velociraptors did...to communicate, or just aid in walking; their heads balance their tails, in some species.

occasionally, parakeets will regurgitate. this is how they feed their young. I have also witnessed them feeding each other this way.
