I'm sorry to steal the answer but he bought digits: 1 (one digit) for 50p, 10 (two digits) for 50p x 2 = £1, and 200 (three digits) for 50p x 3 = £1.50

Yes, he purchased 3 numbers for his front door.
1 was 50p
2 was £1
so '2' + '0' +'0' = £1.50
