Do I have to call my man a boyfriend when I have been living with him for 8 years? Would I be wrong to call him my husband? What is the translation for non-legal step son? What does the son call the mom's man? "My moms boyfriend"? Yuk!

If I say "My partner" it sounds like I am gay and people look at me funny.

No, you wouldnt call him your husband if you arnt married. Theres really no other word for the man, other than boyfriend, unless you want to call him your partner, and that doesnt sound right. If hes a boyfriend, Id call him a boyfriend, no matter how many yrs youve been together.
As far as the son goes, yes, Id call him the moms boyfriend, cuz thats how it is. You arnt married, so I dont know what else youd call it. Dont worry, it all sounds normal when you say it, cuz thats what it is. If youve been together for 8 yrs, you obviously love each other. Why not tie the knot?

That's for you all to decide although you have to understand why some people might get confused. You'd be wrong to call him your husband because most states do not actually have common law marriages (contrary to popular belief). The non legal step son is your boyfriend's son - unless you all have come to an arrangement where the son, his mother and his father all feel comfortable with you calling him your son.
And sorry, yes, Mom's boyrfriend is what he is until there's a wedding.
But I call my mom's husband my step-dad even though he never adopted me because that is what we are all comfortable with.

after 7 years you have waht is called a common law marriage, so you can call him you husband, and he can call you his wife< as for his son he can call you his step mom and you can call him your step son! But really what ever you feel comfortable with it makes no difference at all!! hoped this helped!
best of luck to the two of you!! hope you finally decide to tie the knot someday!!
keep on YAHOOING!!

You could call your man your "partner" or "significant other". I wouldn't call him your "husband" since you aren't married.
As for his son, I think "step son" is OK.

You are common law married. You should call him your husband. And let your son call him whatever he feels comfortable calling him.

If you want to say he's your husband, marry him. Your son should call him by his name.

well living together for 8yrs constitutes 'common law' spouse. So you could call him your husband. His son could be considered your stepson. Unless you don't feel comfortable with that.
It's okay to call him your husband and his son your stepson.

Hell by now I'd be referring him as my hubby and your son could use his 1st name or Dad. You can explain details to people later if it suits you, congrads on 8 years.
