To answer your question.....because we have a freedom of religion. You have a freedom from religion as well. The majority of people are Christian in this country, however, that does not make it a Christian country. There is no official religion in this country, dispite what some people think.

1. The presidents have been Christian because very few Non Christians have run, or got major support(look how DNC threw Lieberman under the bus as it were)
2. Christmas has been co-opted by the Advertising industry
3. Churches are not on every corner, and if people wanted to build houses to worship other deities I'm sure they would have no trouble.
4. In God we trust does not invoke any specific deity, and if you use electronic currency you don't have to see it.
5. 85% if you say so, they CHOOSE it just as you choose not to believe no one says you have to agree with us.
6 whether or not you subscribe to the deity of the masses does not change the fact that you live here and i hate to break it to you but Osama and Co. won't be content to let go w/o a god, they'll force Allah down your throat or slit it those are your options with them.
7.I wont even dignify the black comment.

I agree with the question asker but if we declared ourselves christian we would have many angry people, and angry governments as well. Even George Bush knows that is would not be very smart to declare. Though, I do think America could invest a little more time on diversity, this is a question people have battled for eons with many religions and beliefs. It is hard for 85% (christians) of america to change their political beliefs and say "Now, what would a liberal buddhist vote for?". Maybe these problems of humankind are too advanced for us to all come to agreements on. (Also we are screwed if we try to wage war against them, unfortunately we only have 15%.) Would you be happier if we were declared a christian nation? At least we have the freedom- which means we still are able to turn things around. Once we're declared a christian nation, we are SCREWED! So, good luck, but we need to begin gathering as (hopefully) intellectuals in this country and try to change people's minds peacefully through education. It is the only way anything will ever get better. Be glad you are not declared a felon of national (christian) law! I thank my lucky stars as well!

You are right. It is very wrong for anybody to say that America is a Christian nation. We only say this loosely because the vast majority of us are Chrisatians.
In all reality, this nation was founded on the promise of religious freedom. Our founding fathers insisted on there being no connection between church and state.
With the uprise of evil men, like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell, who insist that Government must be connected with certain "faith based" religions has come the downfall of America.
Now the religious right wingers have been given so much political power that they think they can rule other non-Christians lives.
I say; "Judge not lest ye be judged" thou nation of backstabbing vipers and religious hypocrates.
You are witnessing the Nazification of America. The Anti-Christ has reared his ugly head in the White House!

People say that because the US does not have an established state religion. Yes, there is a strong heritage of Christianity, but it's not a Christian country. Norway, Sweden, Finland, those are Christian countries, it's actually the established state religion. In the US, it's in the Bill of Rights that it can't be mandated what religion the citizens follow.

Wow, you're a freak on all types of levels.
You're right, America is a Christian Country. You're absolutely right.
I respect the fact that you are an atheist, you can believe what you want.
If you would not fight for this country then you should go to a country that you would fight for. We don't need you here or even want you here. That's the problem with america today... all you leftwing, idiots are here but have no pride in your country. Honestly, GO TO FRANCE BECAUSE WE DON'T NEED YOU HERE.
FYI- Not ever african is black. Get some education.

Yes, Christianity isnt the nation religion
It would violate the Constitution
And this is a country of diversity, we have people who are Buddhism, Islamic, Catholic, Jo Hobo Witness, all sorts of religion
If Christianity was the nation religion it wouldnt be very pretty, its one of the specialtys of US :)

"We carry those Truths to be self-obtrusive, that all adult adult males are created equivalent, that they are endowed with the help of their author with particular unalienable Rights, that between those are life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Thomas Jefferson stated (1807) "between the inestimable of our advantages, also, is that ...of liberty to worship our author contained in the way we assume of maximum agreeable to His will; ..." In a united states of america with a state faith, freedom of religion is often considered to point that the authorities helps non secular practices of different sects as well the state faith, and does no longer persecute believers in different faiths. the only worry is that we obviously recognize that human beings following those diverse religions do no longer have self belief interior an same G-d. The scriptures of the religions are so fundementally diverse and paint the variety of quite some image that they only can't be an same G-d, and all of us recognize (in case you've self belief in a G-d) that all of them can't be suited only one will be reality that may recommend each and each of the others could be pretend. Multiculturalism would not artwork and could only convey about one component. you only could look on the Balkans and everywhere else contained in the international with mass multiculturalism to understand this. you eventually end up having a situation the position human beings aren't any more united below an same flag. you've the dissimilar peoples living of their diverse ghettos wanting to envision their own separate state interior of a state. It destroys identity and values from interior of. Multiculturalism can't be reconciled with a worry-loose American identity, what you extremely choose is integration by managed immigration. the top effect of multiculturalism is the breakup or lack of life of a united states of america and larger than probable conflict and warfare. Integration on the different hand is a few thing that does artwork. If immigration is managed and carried out in small numbers of highly qualified those who can contribution to the rustic, and who will be able to take up and combine with the values of that united states of america then immigration by integration does artwork. united statesa. is truly a lot a Christian united states of america as seventy six% of the inhabitants stumble on as being Christian and your united states of america became in accordance to Christian ideas and derived regulations.

Because America is an imperialist Empire that actively works AGAINST the teachings of Jesus Christ, such as waging peace, forgiving one's enemies, eschewing material wealth, and helping the poor & sick for free.
