I don't believe so. I think this is one of those issues that each person has to decide for themselves. You have to live with your conscience either way.
I say no because it doesn't involve lusting after someone who is not your spouse. Some say Onan's sin of "emitting seed" on the ground is a sin. Certainly, God condemned him for that, but because it contradicted a direct command for Onan to give his brother's widow a child (which was the command and custom of the day). It's not that he wasted seed, it's that he had sex with his brother's widow with the intention of not fulfilling the entire purpose of that law. Just "wasting seed" is not a sin as I see it.

To be able to ask this question, means that you were aware of it at the least. The bible tells us that we can abstain from all fleshly desires if we seek his face and ask for help.
The best thing you could do in this case , is fill your mind and heart up with the things of the Lord. Meditate on Him day and night, seek ye Him first, etc.
You may respond that you are doing this, however....
I believe God, and and imagine you do as well, but are lacking in courage to take the bold step and resist the devil SO THAT HE WILL FLEE.
God cares deeply for your needs certainly. He would have you be a good witness and a holy vessel though, as a believer.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.knowledge.
Read Revelation 21:8 tonight BEFORE YA GO TO BED !=]
But also.....read some Psalms and Proverbs likewise.
Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee.
*Sin, because we/you whomever is aware of the "act" or acts etc, we are responsible for our actions.
I would suggest you keep on fighting and dont give in, times will get hard, but God will increase YOUR STRENGTH WHEN HE SEES YOU TRUELY WANT.....HIM. GODBLESS.

I think you'd have to do a lot more evil things than masturbating to go to hell!! And besides in your sleep! Take our wonderful President Bush and all the people he is responsible for killing, now that is someone who may go to hell.

who said it was a sin?? Those who will go to hell include any who are not obedient to God and have not received salvation from Him. Are you disobediant to God? Have you recieved salvation from Him? if you answered No, then seek what must be done to say Yes to those questions!
