Biography from AskART:

William Shepherd grew up in Wyoming exploring the outdoors and drawing. He did not receive any formal art training until he returned from Vietnam having served in the US Navy. He attended the University of Wyoming and studied art.

In 1980 Shepherd moved to New Mexico. He began his career painting realistic landscapes yet after twenty years he moved into an almost pure abstract style. Eventually Shepherd felt again drawn to realism though he struggled to find the right subject. While traveling to Mexico the artist collected souvenirs and crafts which he eventually began to paint in super realistic still lifes.
