It probably wouldn't really hurt, but the best people shampoo is baby shampoo which was already mentioned. Much cheaper than a five buck bottle of cat shampoo.
Baby shampoo is very gentle, after all it can get in a baby's eyes without causing harm. Plus, baby shampoo will not strip the oils from their coat. It won't hurt the cat at all. But rinse well regardless.
Bathing your cat is not bad. Just don't do it too often. I personally bathe my cats once a month. After all, these creatures are in your home, on your furniture, shedding hairs around--why not make sure they're clean! Sure, they clean themselves quite well, but after a bath you can feel the difference.

I used Johnson's baby shampoo on mine. It's very gentle and the cat even seemed to like it. I wouldn't use anything too harsh or with a lot of chemicals. It could cause skin problems or even other health concerns if not rinsed properly.

No, that's very bad for their skin. Use a shampoo specifically for cats, they're actually pretty inexpensive if you get them from a mass merchandiser like Wal-Mart or Target.

You shouldn't be bathing your cat - unless something specifically happened and she got dirty. Don't use shampoo - use a little bit of liquid dish soap.

You can, though it might irritate the cats skin. More importantly, why are you bathing your cat? Try using a dry cat bath for it instead. It might save you a few bites and scratches.
