The surgery is a good thing. It will help your arm to heal correctly so you will avoid problems and complications if it heals the wrong way. After surgery, they will give you medicine to keep the pain level down. You will probably want to sleep. Your arm will feel achey for a while, but it will not hurt nearly as bad as when you first broke it. You will probably have a lot of itching if it is casted, which is normal. After the scar has healed and casting and bandages are removed. Ask your doctor about maderma or other medicines to reduce the effects of scarring. Good luck with your surgery.

I've had recent surgery, although not for a broken arm. If you've been advised you will need to have surgery for your arm injury, it sounds like you will be given a general anesthetic before the surgery, so I wouldn't worry about it. You might be in a little pain or discomfort when you wake up from the surgery, but it will most likely be minimal.

I wouldn't worry about having a scar. The human body has incredible ways to heal itself. As for the stiffness, your doctor will advise you about exercises you can do get your arm back up and running again.

Sorry about your broken arm. I'm sure everything will work out fine.

It will certainly hurt when you wake up, but it'll be bearable. If you have the option of not going under for the surgery and just having your arm numbed (they'll also give you something to relax you and make you sleepy), I'd opt for that. I did that and according to my doctor, it's easier to transition from the operation to recovery (when you go under you are extremely groggy when you wake up and the pain is more of a shock). Good luck - it'll only hurt really bad for a few days, and each day will be a little better.

Sure it's going to hurt, but it not going to last. Probably before it heals completely it will stop hurting. I recently had major abdominal surgery. It was painful until I got the stitches out and sore with all the bandages (tape) but that only lasted 6 to 8 weeks and I didn't have to have any more bandages and was totally discharged from any more doctor visits.
Hope this helps! It won't last forever!

hi there, no it won't hurt because you will be under sedation and you will probably heal in 6 weeks? or 6months? as for the scarring, it will take a while for the skin to stop sticking to the muscle underneath because of internal scarring but it will eventually let loose and then find out what stuff you can use on the scar, sometimes scars can fade over time without touching it.

Yes it hurts, mostly the first few days to a week it can get unbearable. If you have a good surgeon the scar can be very minimal but what will help is after the incision heals you can use vitamin E lotion to help the scar heal and fade.

You'll get pain killers after the surgery but it's gonna ache for a long time.
