no, according to the chronology of the Bible, human existence on the planet is about 7000 years.
the creation of the planet? is spoken of in poetic terminology, so as such the earth is as old or older than the theories of science.
The only ones that expose their lack of this simple fact are the fundamentalists who desire to misapply literally what the Bible describes in loose illustrations.

There are two questions here :

1) the process of fossilization.

2) where do dinos fit in the historical setting.

Fossilization, for most people, means buried remains (bones) of ancient animals. There is no mystery to that. An elephant that died, say, 100 years ago, by being caught in a flash flood, will become fossilized in only a few years : decay of soft parts and encasement of bones in layers of sediment. Most fossil are of this type.

There is, however, another aspect to fossilization that may require a longer time. The matter making up the bone gradually dissolves away and is replaced by minerals, forming someting like stone. Would this require hundreds of thousands of years? No one knows quite what the conditions were back then. If you take a bone and put it in household vinegar, it becomes soft in a few hours because the calcium is dissolved by the acid in the vinegar. It is unscientific and misleading to say that because such fassilization under current conditions would take a very long time, that it actually took a long time back then WHEN THE CONDITIONS WERE NOT KNOWN.

As for the second question, the Bible does mention some strange animals that do not exist today but seem to have characteristics of dinos: they are called leviatian, dragons, behemoth, etc. Maybe they were too large for the ark, so God allowed them to be destroyed in the Flood.

My answers are not conclusive but they do offer an alternative. Incidentally, there are many scientists who believe that the earth is quite young based on a number of scientific factors.

Well, the 6-10,000 yrs thing doesn't exactly come from the Bible. It comes from people adding up all the different timeframes in the Bible and calculating an estimate based on various dates of things that have other historical records.

The dating used in fossils is based on the decay of various elements, usually carbon-14. The problem with this is that there is absolutely no way to know how much of each kind of particle was originally in the fossil, or that the rate of particle decay hs not changed in thousands (or millions) of years. In other words, this dating assumes 2 things that are unproveable: a given intial amount of particle, and a steady rate of decay.

The 1st method assumes nothing other than that the historical records are accurate. Also, when it comes right down to it, the age of the world doesn't mean anything. Creation and Evolution are simply 2 theories that have evidence for and against them (depending on what you believe). Which one you believe is a matter of faith.

Usually, there are 3 major answers:
1 - Numerous gaps in the geneological accounts could allow for many more years. The jewish custom was to only include those in geneologies who had interesting or imprtant lives. Also, when it says someone was the father of someone else, it could mean grandfather, great-grandfather, etc. To me, this is not a strong argument, because it still cannot account for millions/billions of lost years.

2 - The consequence of a universal flood had an aging effect upon the earth. Again, I'm not a geologist so I don't know what type of effects it would have.

3 - This is the best support in my opinion. How old were Adam and Eve when they were created? Everything from the text implies that they were adults. The point is this - If God created Adam and Eve with the appearance of age, why couldn't He do the same thing with the world?

God Bless You.

Read Ecclesiastes---One Generation cometh and another goeth, and one dosen't remember the other.
After a million years, not much would be left to remember.
I believe that the Earth is 4 to 5 Billions years old like the Scientist say.
The Bible dosen't say that Adam and Eve were the First Human Beings on the Earth.

Obviously that interpretation of the Bible is wrong since it is in direct conflict with what we KNOW to be true from other reliable sources. In the same way, if a certain group of people insist that the earth is flat, or that the sun orbits the earth, based on their interpretations of the Bible, it merely demonstrates that their interpretation is faulty.

Not one place in the Bible states or even hints that the earth is 6,000 years old.

The only thing that needs explaining is; why are most who expound or critique the Bible such idiots?

The fundies like to claim that the fossils 'don't prove anything' or that they were manufactured or mis-interpreted or that carbon dating doesn't work, whatever desperate means they can come up with to discredit the proof that their entire world-view is fictional and lame.

Well, God could have made the whole world and everything in it yesterday, or a second ago, complete with all your memories...yea yea including the ones where you KNOW that I'm full of it. Working back from that premise...anything is possible. Premise two..Christians know that, with God, anything is possible. Conclusion, your reality is just a delusion imposed on you by Satan. (The logic is ....awesome...God IS truly an awesome God)
To fully understand this you must study the Bible, but you must first believe every word.....impossible you say...uh-uh...not with God!

The fundamentalists give that number. I believe the earth is 4 billion years old, as created by God.
