My husband works a lot of hours- usually between 60 and 80 a week. When he's lucky enough to get a day off MY parents always need him to do little odds and ends around their house. My husband doesn't act like it bothers him, but I know it must because he's exhausted from working all week. How can I say something to my parents without making them think my husband's complaining or feeling embarrassed?

When I have tried to say something to my mom in the past she puts me on a guilt trip about how my dad's old and needs my husband's help. My brother lives at home with my parents and I see no reason why he can't help dad. When I have mentioned this to mom before she says it's not my brother's responsibility to take care of my dad, but I don't see how its mine and my husband's either..

You say no. You're husband says no. Tell your brother that he needs to pitch in more regardless if it's not is "responsibility". dump the guilt, girl. Your mom's been using it on you for years and you need to stand up to it. Tell her that she can't lay the guilt trip on you anymore. Yes, she'll get mad, and she'll get hurt, but she will also get over it. You need to set some bounderies. Reassure her that you are not completely abandoning your family but that it is taking a toll on "YOUR" family. Hire a handy man to do some of the odd jobs around the house to give your husband a break. Do everything in love and everything will be okay. Good luck to you!

I think you should talk to your husband about this and tell him how much you really appreciate all he does for your parents. He must love YOU so much to do this for them. Let him know how much you love him back for it and tell him that if he is too tired at anytime to help your parents to let you know and you can talk to your parents about it. If he really doesn't mind doing it, and he has no complaints....I would let him do it.....seems like it bothers you more than it does him. When two people love each other they do FOR each other...if your parents are in thier golden years and can't do things for themselves then someone should help them! Afterall they raised you up for how many years?? If you think your hubby is too tired maybe the two of you can find a good handyman to help your parents out....but make sure he comes with good references and get a background check to make sure your parents will be safe with him in the house.

hey i know were you are coming from.before my dad died he depended on my husband to help him and some times that excuse was just my dads way of getting mark alone to visit and spend time with him. it bites sometimes, but dad loved him like his own son and i couldnt bring myself to cause a diruption in that bond.and now that dad is gone my husband(mark) spends even more time over their helping mom cope with everything and taking care of every thing she needs. my brother who has his own family does the same. so your parrents must realy love and depend on him for not only help but also companionship. try to be patient and remember if he did not love you and them he would not help. God bless, and good luck.
