I would say Jesus is Lord. Then according to how they responded I would: feed, qinch their thirst, shelter, clothe, tend, and visit.

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to eat, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I need clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you visited me." Matthew 25:35-36

A word of warning however, is that not all homeless people are "brother/sisters". I would not reccomend you pick a homeless person up off the street and do this for them. Satan has his workers also.

"The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who sowed seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away......The servant asked, 'Do you want us to go and pull them?'
"'No', he answered 'because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn." Matthew 13:25; 28-30

Now is the time to harvest, yes. A person of God(even on the streets) will acknowledge that Jesus is Lord hwen it is heard by thier ears. If you just go up to any homeless person, your sowing could either be unfruitful (meaning meaningless) or even damage other wheat (such as your own family, or another person that gift could have been you more wisely for!)

I used to meet homeless people frequently when I lived in New York. I was a kid at the time, but I gave people food (fruit, a sandwich, whatever I had at the time) because that's what my mother did.

When it comes to money, I think my church had a good method for ensuring that money given to needy people didn't get spent on drugs, alcohol or cigarettes... there was this type of check called Script, or Scrip, or something like that.... anyway, it could only be used to purchase food items. I thought that was a good solution.

The majority of homeless people are not really homeless. They have jobs and lavish houses, and actually make more money a day than a lot of working Americans. I met a man with no legs in Vancouver who was begging for money from his wheelchair. I ran into him later on vacation in Mexico, and he was walking around on prosthetic legs and had a mansion down there.

In this country, there is not very many good reasons for being jobless. Anyone can get a job, even if it is flipping burgers a burger king. Most people think it is below them, or don't want to get off welfare by actually working for their money, they prefer to leech off guilt manipulated hard working citizens.

If their truly homeless and hungry because of drug abuse, I am not going to support their habit by giving them money.

You can have the soapbox too.

Booyakasha!

I've met many homeless people. I usually buy them a meal and direct them to the nearest homeless shelter. I've even paid for their bus fare to get there. I don't give them money, since some people aren't really homeless and pretend to be for an income.

I would buy them some food, but if I gave them money, I'm not sure if they would just use it to buy drugs or beer. That wouldn't really help their situation. I would recommend them to a homeless shelter, because I don't know whether they will steal my stuff or not. That is the most help I could give them.

Allot of homeless today may not be homeless. But they should be no different than anyone else in line of sight. The Lord cares for all, so should we.

The scripture says; I am that none should perish, that all should come unto repentance.

The Lord Jesus doesn't leave anyone out at all.

I don't help every single person. You can tell the ones who are asking for money to buy liquor. I think people can have a discernment which God gives us to know when someone is really struggling and know when He (God) wants us to help them. I have seen people digging in garbage cans and I stopped and gave them money for food. I have never taken one to a shelter because being a women by yourself, that might be dangerous. But I have given money to a motel manager to put them up so that they could take a bath and get a warm bed, purchased food, as well as left them with money for a bus ride. We've filled up gas tanks some times instead of giving them the money if we thought they may be using it for the wrong reason. When my son was in high school he ran into a family at a gas station who asked him for food. He didn't have any money but he came home and made them sandwiches and took them back up to the gas station with some cold drinks and they appreciated he did that for them. There are many ways people can help, even if you only have a little money. If no money and you believe they really need help, refer them to a local church or shelter. I try to always express God's love for them.

i actually met a homeless person once when i was in 3rd grade. i kinda spyed on him all the time ever since he started rummaging through the garbage bin. then winter came and i felt awfully bad and took my piggy bank and gave him the whole thing. i also gave him 2 sandwiches. thats all i did though. i really wish i could have done more. i still regret not giving him xtra sweaters or socks. and if i could turn back time, id take him into my home even if my parents protest.

if it were to happen now, id take them to a shelter i guess.

Don't help them because they are homeless for a reason. They must have done something to get themself in that predicament. Most homeless people are drug addicts or alcoholics, so if you give them money, they will just buy drugs with it. If you want to help them stay alive and not necessarily help them get a house, so buy them some food and give them food. Otherwise, let them garbage pick.
