Mandarin Chinese, because there are so many of them

Mandarin has the most speakers, but I personally wouldn't call it "widely spoken", since the vast majority of its speakers are in one country (albeit a huge country). Spanish is spoken as a first language by large numbers of people on at least three continents, as I believe is French, and English is a national or official language of countries on five different continents; those to me are "widely spoken". Arabic is also widely spoken, especially as a second language.

Technically the most widely used languages are English, Chinese and Spanish respectively.

Though Mandarin Chinese is the widest spoken dialect with Cantonese second amoung the many variations, the common written language is why it gets second place.
Spanish is spoken in many countries, many south american and a few Austra-Asian have spannish source.
