He is 5 and just started Kindergarten. He gets in trouble everyday for not listening or touching people to try to annoy them. I don't know if this is normal but I tired of getting bad notes sent home from his teacher. I've tried talking to him and rewarding him for good behavior. Can anyone give some helpful advice?

School will soon be pressuring you about putting him on medication for ADHD. My godson had the same problem when he was little, eventually with a lot of patience he outgrew those problems. You might want to look into schools in your area that specialize in children with behavior problems; I saw a report on them once. They have smaller classes and teachers who have received special trainning.

I agree,
Put a formal request in for your child to be evaluated by the
School Educational Psychologist.
It could be a number of things....
and if he does have ADHD, or some other disorder then the school educational psychologist will have a list of recommendations for an Individual Education Plan for your child.
Good Luck,

* I can understand how you feel, we raised our grandson from the time he was 5 until 14 and I actually resented the school. You get to a point where you want to scream at them
"Is there anything at all that you like about my child"?????
(BTW, he was diagnosed with Moderate to Severe ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Bipolar II.

I have no specific advice, but generally, I believe, that psychology has done some serious research into childhood development. It might be good to talk to a child psychologist and/or read some material that will help to understand what causes this behavior in your son.

Unfortunately, children do not understand themselves very well and they don't communicate well either. I generally assume that most of what children do is an attempt to learn something about themselves or the world. The challenge is to understand what he is trying to learn and address it in a more acceptable way.

good luck.

There are a couple of possibilities. One is that he's less mature than the other kids, and isn't quite ready for school yet. Another is that he's actually more advanced than the class and so is bored (I got in trouble when I was little all the time; when my mom starting giving me extra work to do, I settled down and did much better.)

You know your son better than anyone. Do you feel like he's bored and frustrated? Maybe he's feeling overwhelmed and so is acting out to cover it up? Sit down with him doing "school" stuff like reading together to see if you can figure it out. Good luck.

You might want to have your son evaluated by a psychologist. Such an evaluation will help you to become aware if your son has any psychological factors that may be affecting his school performance, such as processing disabilities, autism, etc.

Have you tried beating him for bad behavior? That might help.
