In most states a home owner can pull their own permit to work on their own home.If you're not an electrician, get one.If your not a carpenter, get one.If you not a plumber, you guessed it,get one.In all seriousness, you can pull your own permit and hire a licensed contractor to do the work you're not comfortable with.Check with your local building department.
