No, but sometimes it gets people's attention better.

Suffering is necessary to understand that you have to go with the flow. Suffering is a universal concept, but, for example, you could be wise and mature in the ways of your god and still not accept reality.

Suffering is unavoidable. One person's suffering (dad committing suicide at age 5) and another person's suffering (dad liked me and it made mom mean to me) and yet another person's suffering (my brother always picked on me) is still suffering. No one gets a free pass (witness: beautiful Julia Roberts marrying Lyle Lovett?) Translation: we will all gain wisdom and maturity.

Its not necessary but what doesnt kill us makes us stronger. So we usually do gain wisdom through hard times. I went through "Katrina" and I don't know one person it didn't teach something to. Not saying if I could take it back I wouldn't but what the enemy meant for bad , GOd meant for Good.

Suffering is necessary to develop empathy. It also helps us to learn to use our resources and call upon God for help. We all suffer in our own way and although many people may not seem to suffer we can not see inside their minds and hearts.

In short, yes suffering is necessary to temper ones character with these qualities. However I do not believe such suffering needs to be extreme or that joy and wholesomeness do not also help one to find such virtues.

Yes, we are put on this earth not to lead a care free, stress free life. We will suffer, its all just a test to see how you will handle it. God wants to prepare us for heaven. Look at what Jesus went through during his time here on earth.

No. There is nothing noble or holy about suffering. Anyone who says any different is an unaware masochist.
