Recipes would be welcome! Any suggestions about wine to go with it?

In Italy, they start with a small fish course, followed by a pasta course, followed by a meat course, although on my most recent trip to Italy I ate at a seafood restaurant and had carpaccio del tonno (raw tuna sliced thin, served with a drizzle of olive oil) followed by vongole (linguine with clam sauce) then spado (swordfish steak).

My favorite Italian dishes in the whole wide world are ravioli al funghi (ravioli stuffed with wild mushrooms, topped with cheese) and osso bucco (veal knuckle slow cooked in a tomato and wine sauce.

Don't forget the tiramisu for dessert! It's really easy to make - one of those "no fail" recipes that impresses every time.

Bon apetito!

Click of recipes.

I used this site last weekend, it was great as they give you photos too.

I would start with something easy like garlic bread or an Italian soup. You could make a huge bowl of pasta, and serve with feta salad at the table, that makes life really easy, and I tried the recipe for home made ice-cream, which was far easier than I imagined.

I once went to a really cool party where all the cooking ingredients were laid out on the worktop, and we each got a pizza base and made our own pizzas. That was great fun and a little different.

Good luck with it!!

Top tip, only use extra virgin olive oil for all Italian recipes. You can taste the difference.

Well my mother in law is Italian....
and she does a FANTASTIC spread.

A starter is usually pasta and sugo with parmesan cheese....sugo is just tomato sauce...
Its the easiest thing in the world to make...

A little oil in the bottom of a pan...add some garlic...a small tin of tomato puree and about 2 pints of water. You can add a whole onion for flavour
Let it reduce over a period of 2-3 hrs...and about 1 hr from the end add some torn basil leaves.

Main course is usually different meats, Italian sausage, meatballs served with potatoes, roasted garlic peppers and green beans...
The potatoes are boiled and roughly crushed..not mashed with onion, red wine vinegar and a little garlic...
The green beans are boiled for about 4 mins..the water drained and red wine vinegar and garlic added.

Also on the table are a selection of green and black olives with various stuffings if pitted.

Dessert is usually cheesecake or ice cream followed by coffee

She is from Rocca Secca in the Lasio region of Italy and that is a usual Italian meal.

If you want to make the meatballs..they are easy too.

Mince, chopped garlic, bread torn into penny sized pieces, oil and an egg to bind.

mix well and form into whatever size you want. Place on a baking sheet and put in the oven at a low temp for about 10-15 mins... just long enough that they wont break up during cooking.

Put the meatballs into the sugo that has been cooking for about 1 hr and simmer slowly for about 2 hrs until the sauce reduces and thickens.

Hmmm.I've just made myself incredibly hungry...Think I need to pay a visit...

Enjoy your meal!

Course 2: Pick your favorite italian dish: lasagna, alfredo, spaghetti, marsala.

Do an appetizer plate with fresh mozarella balls, cured italian meats, and bread with garlic olive oil for dipping.

Make up a big lasagna.

Serve you salad last. Use chick peas and other beans along with regular salad greens and an oil and vinegar salad dressing.

Keep dessert simple...pistachio icecream and hot fudge sauce.

keep it simple and authentic, start with breaded garlic mushrooms with garlic mayo dip..the dips easy if you cant find a recipe just get good quality mayo or sour cream and add grated garlic according to taste, then spaghetti meatballs with grated parmesan and finish with tirimasu..if you google you'll find the recipes, when i was in rome i ate all of the above besides the mushrooms but they're so yummy you just cant leave them out!

Starter: Antipasti or parma ham with melon slices or mozzerella slices with beef tomatoes.
Main: Take your pick of pasta dishes - raviolli with a simple tomato and basil sauce works. Or a risotto.
Dessert: Chocolate gelato, or chocolate torte.

And red wine. :)
