1stly, yaaay for you adopting a homeless kitty.
2ndly, the poor thing must be completely stressed out. her babies have been taken from her. she's only 18mths and in unfamiliar territory with an unfamiliar human.
As many others have suggested, leave out some food & water. Litter tray too. Make sure you haven't locked her in any cupboards or drawers or anything...maybe even leave them all open in case.
Give her time & space. Some peace & quiet won't hurt either. As long as you're 100% sure she hasn't gotten outside, she'll show herself once she is ready. Cats do things on their own terms. You need to be patient with her & she'll come around. Don't force your attention or affection upon her or she'll forever be avoiding you.
If it gets into a place it cannot get out of, you'll hear her screaming for help. I wouldn't worry so much. It's very common among cats to hide for the 1st couple of days, and as you said - she's had a terrible start to life so it must be even tougher for her than most to just settle in.
From experience, my cats were never big on tuna. Perhaps some plain chicken breast could be good to lure her out. Just leave it in the bowl & let the smell waft to wherever she may be hiding.
Good luck & I'd love to know how things turn out!
And once you eventually get hold of her, put a collar with a bell on. That way you'll hear every little move she makes & will be relieved to know where she is...

This little scarred kitty could be anywhere, i remember when i got my first cat he was not that small as the owner was keeping him for her daughter as she was getting a flat from he council which fell through so the owner was left with two Kitty's and i took one. anyway at the time i was living in a one bed flat so as you can already guess was not the biggest of places and he too was very scarred and ran as fast as he could and headed into my kitchen, i too had not doors or windows open and for the love of god could not find him, i was so convinced and sure he had gone into the kitchen so looked behind fridge freezer cooker washing machine etc anything and everything that i thought he could get behind, nothing i was amazed but then found him hidden behind the back of a set of draws how he got in there I have no idea but for the first few days if i couldn't find him i knew where to get him lol anyway he is not 10 and the most loving cat ever and doesn't hide anywhere and were have even moved to a bigger place.
Bless him and bless your wee kitty too. i am sure he will turn up.

It is hiding. It can feel your stress, so as soon as you calm down and it gets hungry, it'll show itself again.
When it does, just leave it to sniff around. Have food and water and litter tray within its reach, but don't attempt to approach. This routine might take a few days before the kitten starts to accept you.
The last thing you want to do is fill your house with more humans. But get on with your daily routine (make sure you keep the volume on the t.v. and c.d. player low and try not to use the vacuum cleaner or anything else that will freak a kitten out ..)
The kitten will not allow itself to starve and will be watching everything you do. When he decides he can trust you, never make any sudden moves for him and be patient. Avoid eye contact as much as possible and even walk backwards towards him if he still feels nervous.
Your patience and understanding will give you a wonderful bond in the future!

Poor you!
Check every cupboard and behind every appliance. My cat manages to climb in behind the drier and lies on the vent tube thingy so we can't put her out! Check places like that, check between the fridge and the wall and check up high - like on top of cupboards.
Better yet, put some lovely food out on a plate and don't go near the kitchen for an hour or two - then see if it's been eaten. The kitten may have ducked past you as you were closing the door to the kitchen.

New kitten will be nervous being in a new environment. One of the first things new kittens when they are in a new home is explore this new territory, then they have to test drive a good sleeping spot they have found. Don't make to much fuss. I the kitten is still in the kitchen it will come out in its own time. Just be sure you haven't accidently locked it in a cupboard. Washing machines and tumble driers are a kitty favourite when it comes to finding good places to snooze, so make sure the doors on these are kept closed at all times. You don't want any accidents.

I would give the cat some time, it is in a totally new environment and this can be very stressful for cats. Just try to stop looking for it, be quiet and leave some food around. It will come out maybe when it is dark during night when nobody is around and feels safer to start searching its new environment. My cat has moved with me a lot and the first day would just stay under the bed and then come out in the night.

Hi!
This happened to me when I got a new kitten!!
Our kitty got herself into one of my kitchen cupboards! There was only about a two inch gap and she squeezed right through it!
Try and keep the noise to a minimum when looking for it. Any sudden noises will only make it more nervous.
Try leaving a couple of saucers out with tiny bits of food in them.
Remember the kitten is very frightened, he/she just doesn't know yet what a good home he's/she's been so lucky to have found!!
Don't worry about the CPL - you won't be the first one of their adoptive parents to have lost a cat. Anyway, I'm sure the kitten will turn up soon.
Best of luck!!
Here, Kitty, Kitty!!!

Cats are flexible and can squeeze through almost any size hole. I have even found mine in kitchen drawers. They get the cupboard open and crawl behind the drawer. It may be behind your refrigerator or stove too. If you have a can of tuna, open it and place the tuna in a bowl on the floor. Step away from it and wait quietly and patiently. The cat should smell the tuna and come out to explore. If it does, talk to it gently, but stay where you are until it seems comfortable. Good luck. I hope you find it.

I had a kitten that actually hid in the settee. Check if he can get in from below. . You can check any other furniture that may have hidden corners from below, behind the stove and washing machine is also a good hiding place. Good luck. Put food out that smells nice to him - like fish. perhaps he will come out.

Try the food trick in case it is still in the kitchen, also check outside the house or where it was originally found. My fiend got out through a two inch hole, but turned up a few days later near where he had been born.
