Actually, when my foot itches on the bottom and I go to scratch it, I end up tickling myself. It doesn't work with my armpits though. When someone comes up to me and tickles me surprisingly, I don't usually get tickled. More like angry and I end up hurting them. It only tickles me when it's playful.

Much of being ticklish is the element of surprise. The physical sensation alone is not as effective without it. If you tickle yourself, you know it's coming, so your mind is prepared to anticipate the sensation, which decreases the total experience.

That is a great question! I think it would have to be because we anticipate the sensation, basically know it's coming versus when someone tickles us, it is random. Just a guess.

Because tickling requires the element of surprise!
When you try to tickle yourself, your Brain already knows where it is going to try to do the tickling - so no tickling sensation is produced! ;-)

You can, but it does not feel the same. Your brain knows that your fingers will tickle you before they actually touch and so your muscles and nerves are quite relaxed!

Sometimes we can. It's just a matter of finding the right location and using the right touch. But why should we want to?

Because being ticklish is only a state of mind. If we tell ourselves that we are not ticklish, then we will not be.
